Has anyone received a discount for the pool closure from the All star sports in Sept? :confused3

No, but I asked to be switched to a different value and I was. I don't think they will offer a discount.

If they did I want one for MK because HM will be closed and another for MGM because they have now announced that RnR will be closed too. :rotfl: :sad2:

I am just curious why is it that when the All Star pools are being renovated some people ask if others got any discounts from WDW? I understand about the prefered rooms and how they are close to the pools, but I don't see guests staying at the Contemporary getting discounts for the closing of the Food & Fun Center, along with the renovation of the lobby. The same thing can be said about the renovation of the buildings at the Grand Floridian. I know it sounds like I am trying to argue which I am not but my feeling is if WDW ever gave discounts to anyone because something major at their Resort was being renovated, then it should happen at every WDW Resort.

Which is exactly why you wont' see any discount offered in this instance either.

You're welcome to switch to another resort or stay put... But they simply don't discount in cases like this.

ASSp was the only value for my time-frame where I could get an AP rate and this is only my second time here (giving it another chance after a disappointing 1st stay years ago). The resort should be quiet because of the lack of interest due to the pool closure and I'm welcoming it. Call me weird, but I'm not upset with the pool closed - there's still the quiet pool and the pools at ASMu.

This is a little off topic, but I would like to tell you my story from last year. Last year I was booked to stay at the Poly. At the time of booking, Captain Cooks had been moved to a temp location and the Refillable Drinking Cups (RDCs) were not available. I was told many times (I called weekly) that Captain Cooks would re-open by the time we were to arrive. As silly as it sounds my family loves the RDCs and we would have booked at another Deluxe Resort if we thought that the Cups would not be available. By the time I found out that Captain Cooks was not going to re-open, there were no other deluxe resorts available. I faxed a very nice letter to the Poly explaining that I was upset that the RDCs would not be available and it was now too late for me to switch resorts. I never mentioned that I wanted anything in return, I just stated my situation. I received a phone call from the Poly within a few hours. I don't imagine that any other guest staying at the Poly received compensation for such a silly thing, but I did. They gave me a $5 per person/per day resort credit (which worked out to $225). They gave this to me because I explained that there were 5 people in my party. Each of us would refill our drinking cups at least 2x per day. We were staying for 9 nights. They said that an average coffee or pop costs around $2.50 ($2.50 * 2 * 5 *9 = $225). I was so pleased.
My point is that each person has unique reasons for choosing a resort. I am sure that many people could care-less if the pool at your resort is closed. For some it is actually an advantage (i.e. the resort is less crowded). If you were under the impression that the pool would be open when you made your booking, then Disney should move you to another value resort where the pool is open. I don't know if a "discount" is relevant in your case, but you never know. I would write a very friendly letter to the resort and explain your situation. Good Luck.

I also just want to give my story of a pool closing that I had no idea was going to happen. In January of 1999 my family and I were staying at the Wilderness Lodge and after we checked-in we saw that the pool was closed for renovations for a few days, so if we wanted to swim we could have gone to the Contemporary, however we did not feel up to going there just to swim. Now keep in mind this pool renovation was before the DVC building was built, so there was no 2nd pool for us to use. Also I remember that the weather was ok for swimming, but other days not so good. The point is how WDW failed to contact us before we arrived or how we were not told of this at check-in, however we accepted what was going on and we did not demand we get to get compensated, because we realized since we checked-in after the holiday season that they thought it was the best time for them to renovate the pool.

I am not sure how far the walk is, but I do know that the OP could also go over to the All Star Music and Movies to use their pools since they would be allowed to. So it's not like they would be without a pool and considering that fact, that is what is great about the All Star Resorts since guests staying there can use any of the pools they want.

Thanks for all your replies. I was just curious as I have been in the travel industry for 14 years and would certainly have chosen another resort way back when I orig booked the All star. And now they can not move us to another resort due to no openings. After 8 stays in 5 years and 4 disney cruises, I understand the need for the renovations, however, when booking the agents should be tell you in advance of any renovations taking place at your resort. Just a thought, the value is still great for what we are getting from the All Star........However the bed bugs stories have certainly freaked us out. We stay on site due to cleaniness we find at disney verses any of the chains.

I didn't ask for a discount since I wasn't in a preferred room anyway. I did try to see if I could switch to another value but there supposedly were no rooms available with the free dining for my dates. I didn't really push for it because I didn't care too much about the pool. THere is another pool there and we can use the other AS pools if we want. We have a pool at home and we're mainly at WDW for the parks :thumbsup2
But I have read on these boards about many people being able to switch because of the pool situation at Sports.

Does it really matter that the pool is closed, anyways?? After all, when you stay at Sports (or music or movies) you can share pools from each value resort (Music, Movies or Sports). Right? That is what I was told by my TA.
IF I am wrong, don't slam me, please correct me. Thank You!

My sentiments exactly.

Request the baseball bldgs, rooms are newly redone and the pool is right there. The reason I switched is because we like sitting by the pool sipping frozen cocktails and just didn't want to have a parking lot to get back to our room.

Thanks - I did this as soon as I found out about the pool closure, although I bet ALOT of others will be requesting this section.

Ahhh - sipping cocktails by the pool... :cloud9:

when I made my reservation back in May.the only standard rooms were at the All Star Sports.I tried several times to change it to Pop. but always told nothing availability.

So left with All Star Sports. It is worth it for the free dinning.

I got send the letter about 10 days after I made the reservation. It told about the pool being closed. but I wanted standard not preferred and All Star Sports was it.

It has been posted here for a while.

If you had asked before you made the reservation someone would have told you.

This will be our first time to Disney. Am I right that the 'pool bar' is around the pool that will be closed??? Just wondering if we are swimming at the other if we have to hop out and go all the way to other pool which is closed??? Is that right or is there somewhere else on the property to get 'adult beverages'????

Thank you guys!!!

OOPS - I just found this and answered my own question: "Surfboard Pool and Kiddie Pool closed for refurbishment from 8/27 - 10/04. The Grand Slam pool will remain open and guests can also use the pool at the two other All Star Resorts"

pretty sure it will be open.

that say if it is close and you are in baseball (home run) - then Music (the all star resort right next to you) their main pool, bar and food court are just about as far away as Sports is.

this is only for baseball area.

where I think the majority of us is trying for at this time.

here is a map so you can see what I am talking about
