All Star Sports - help with planning

So, I had done all my research and picked Movies (preferred and requested Toy Story buildings since its DS 2 1/2 favorite movie) then, I got a Disney Visa offer and was told I could still apply the discount (significant, so I couldn't pass it up on our tight budget) but I had to switch out of Movies.

I made the switch to Sports (DS likes football too) and stuck with preferred b/c it was what I had at Movies. Should I bother with preferred or request Touchdown? Is Sports o.k.? I know its the oldest, and I've seen some negative reviews. I don't care about amenities (or I wouldn't be staying at a value), I just want clean and nice people. Would Music have been a better choice? Do you think I can call back and switch if I do change my mind?

I know its a ton of questions, but I'm a planner. And, having to make a spur of the moment decision on the phone threw me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'm freaking out for no reason, but I'm freaking' none-the-less.

AHHHHH!!! Help me find my happy place. P-P-P-Please. :sad2:

when are you going?

you know the main pool - the one close to the preferred is being rehab at present until Oct.

some of the building have been rehab. So might try for one of those.

We're not going until Nov. So, we'll be after the rehab. Thanks for the heads up!

Any idea which buildings have been rehab'd?

From my understanding, the baseball building has been refurbed and I believe they are working on the football one now. I stayed at Sports back in '01 and was very happy with it, especially if you know what to expect at a value. Am heading down there again in 8 days, so I will provide updated opinion when I return. :thumbsup2

I've stayed there twice, one in the baseball building and onces in the surf building. (The surf one is preferred although I just happened to be there during a slow time and got that one.) I'm a big sports nut so I really enjoy it. The pool was nice, the food court was GREAT and I never met with a single person who wasn't helpful. Check in was a breeze, when I went down to pick up my tickets for the halloween party and to ask about making a spur of the moment reservation for a character breakfast they were great.

I'm also a person who can be overly worried about cleanliness of places. (When I traveled for hockey I brought my own pillow and a small blanket to put over the hotel ones, granted all our traveling was done on a budget.) But I thought our room was really clean and the mousekeeping did a great job during our whole trip.

You'll find stories on both sides but two trips and no bad reports here. I'm also going in Nov. this year but because of a great code we're trying AKL for the first time. I hope you have a good trip!

I stayed at Sports in September 05 with my husband and two teenagers. We had requested the Hoops Hotel but they were doing some type of rehab on the rooms there during that time period (I think they were just repainting). We stayed in one of the tennis buildings and although it was a hike to the main building, we enjoyed our stay. The rooms and grounds were very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We only ate at the food court once and we were all able to find something we liked. The food service was a little slow, but the employees were friendly. We did not have to wait long for buses, although the buses often left our resort and then continued to Music and Movies to pick up more passengers. We were glad we were the first stop as we always had a seat.
I have heard that many sports teams stay there in the summer and there are unsupervised youth running all over the resort, but our stay was very quiet. We plan on returning next year in late August and have no hesitation about staying at Sports again!

I stayed at Sports last year for our first WDW trip. We loved it. Rooms were clean, towel animals daily, no problems getting extra towels for the pool. I had booked Pop for Thanksgiving week, just to try something different. But I saved $339 with the code yesterday and had no problem switching to Sports. FYI (in case you don't know): Sports is the 1st to pick up on the bus route, so you'll have a better chance of getting a seat in the mornings. And it is the first to drop off, so if you do have to stand you won't stand long!

Personally, I'm a fan of POP Century (stayed there 6 or 7 times). However, just to try something new I stayed in a preferred room at AS Sports for my May trip. I was pleasantly surprised. The resort was very clean, CMs very nice, and bus service was better than it was at POP (even having to share with AS Music and AS Movies). As another poster said the order of bus pick ups are 1) Sports, 2)Music, 3) Movies and same on the way back from the parks.

For my trip in Sept/Oct I'm trying AS Music. For my Dec trip I had POP booked. However, I was unable to use the new codes for POP, so switched to AS Sports. After my initial disappointment I'm looking forward to staying at AS sports again.

here are two prvious links I posted to. We switched from sport to movies because the pool is closed.. WE LOVE sports, first time we stayed was in touchdown and it is probably even a better location than surfs up..right between the two pools, close to foodcourt near laundry (this stay is 15 days, laundry is a must with two little ones) We would book preferred because that way we were guaranteed close pool and w/o it I think there is no guarantee to the bldg you want. I thought I had some pics in one of these posts but didn't see them so I'll add again
You will love sports..
Enjoy

and if you want in on a fridge swap I just started one... we were always told no guarantee on a fridge and this time we added an extra night 4 times to our res (from 10 to 15 days) and each time that request dropped off my reservation so I decided to just start a swap..
