I stayed at the All-Satr Music 2 years ago and bought a refillable mug and I'm just wondering if I could take it and use it again at the All-Star Movies instead of buying new ones. Has anyone been there recently and done this? Thanx.

"Officially" the policy is the mugs are for length of stay only. Unofficially prolly nothing will be said if you use them.

As Andrew_Lubow said, the mugs are for the length of stay ONLY.

I do it all of the time and have never had a problem. Stayed at the all Stars 4 times this year. Since we go 5-6 times a year, we would have quite a collection if we bought one every time. Unfortunately this is a sensitive subject on this board and will attract every opinion imaginable. We became friends with the manager at the food court at the Movies and he was well aware of our older mugs. Never did he ever say anything about us using them.

I was just at ASMO, and I saw guests using DCL mugs, among other mugs, and no one said anything. Hey, my mom and I went every morning to fill up our mugs, and we poured it into the bottles we carried in the parks (we filled them up with ice in the room beforehand), and no one said anything.

Refillable mugs are good for lenghth of stay only. That means once the trip is over so is the use of the mugs (at least at the parks). While it is true that some reuse mugs with out any trouble and some use other resorts mugs it doesn't make it right.

I've read posts by other people that they have asked at the front desk during check-in about this same question. Some CMs have told them the mugs are good for the length of the stay and some CMs have told them they are good forever, at that resort only.

This issue never seems to get resolved?

Is there anyone that works at a Disney Resort that could provide insight?

I dont work for Disney, DrKnow, but I did inquire about this issue and got an answer from Disney Executive Offices. We had been told 2x from different CMs at different resorts that the mugs are good for life at the resort they are bought at and their sister resorts. Once we asked what the policy was and once the information was offered to us. So, when we heard they werent I was quite upset that we were sold the mugs under false pretenses. In fact I had never even thought about reusing the mugs until a CM told me I could.

Anyway the response I recieved on my answering machine was the "official official thing"(said sarcastically) is the mugs are only good for the length of stay. However, the resorts have made their own rules and if a guest has a mug, it will be refilled no problem.
So, take that for what its worth. ;)

I wrote this a couple of months ago, and it was suggested I save it for future "Mug re-use" threads in order to save a lot of people a lot of typing...
"The Great Mug Debate" often erupts here and takes on the tone of a heated theological debate. I'll try and summarize the camps and their views...

1) The Official Policy Group
The official policy, anytime anyone writes WDW, is "one mug, one resort (excluding sisters), one visit". Signs are also appearing in food courts around WDW that state this. Members of this group (me inclued), know that in practice food court CMs rarely enforce this policy and often contradict this policy when asked about it by guests (sometimes even when the official policy is posted on a sign only a few feet away). They feel the CMs simply have thrown in the towel and don't have the resources to police the soft drink lines. This is why you may see someone using a 7-11 Big Gulp cup unmolested by CMs who witness the obvious abuse.

This group adheres to... the official policy.

2) The "But the CM told me..." Group
This group was told by a CM when they purchased their mugs that the mugs were (pick one or both):
a) Good for life.
b) Good at any resort.
They feel that official policy, or not, what the CM told them is what matters. They say either WDW unfairly changed the rules on them after they bought the mugs, or they wouldn't have bought the mugs if the CM hadn't given them bad information. They generally feel like a "wronged" party, and advocate continued use of their old mugs until actively prevented from doing so by CMs. The fact that most of them have long since recouped the costs of their mugs in savings from free re-fills doesn't impact their feelings.

Whether or not the current official policy is a change from the past is another side debate. Some recall the policy has been consistent, but enforcement has steadily dropped off, others claim the original policy was "for life".

3) The "I give WDW a ton of my hard earned money" Group
This group, the smallest of the three, feels that it's no skin off of Disney's back if they reuse the mugs again, and again... policy or not. They cite things like the high prices of everything at WDW, the rumor that Coke gives WDW syrup for free, etc. etc. as their basis for their actions. They may also borrow mugs from friends, or buy them off of eBay, or use their Big Gulp mugs for their trips to WDW.

Great post Geoff_M! I know some people on here probably get tired of seeing the same old posts over and over again :), but it definetly helps us "newbies" of the board!

Thanks for all the "veterans" wonderful insight!
