All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Oh quick question - the preferred rooms are still in Calypso right? I didn't book a family suite - just a preferred room. Is there a map anywhere that shows room locations by type?

Hi. I just read through ALL of the pages in this thread, and now I'm wavering on our trip - sounds like the Family Suites are wonderful and would probably give us most everything we want at a great price.

We have a room only reservation at a FW cabin for 1/19-30/09, but based on historic AAA discounts in January, and adding in the golf cart, the AS Suite is almost half the price!

Now what do I do? I've seen other threads that people are comparing the two, but not that many people have stayed in both to really compare their experience.

I figure we'll be giving up a stove and full fridge and parking at the door and gaining another bathroom, more comfy seating and more Disney theming and activities within walking distance. We're going to spend this weekend deciding, but we just may be moving our reservation and joining all of you ASMu folks. We stayed once before and it was fine, but we missed the POFQ. Never thought we'd go back, but two kids makes you think a LOT differently, doesn't it!?!

Yes the Calypso is a preferred room location. I am not sure if there is a map by type. I believe that the Jazz is also a preferred location as well...I may be wrong though...

I haven't stayed at ASMu family suites yet but have stayed in the cabins and have stayed in a "regular" room at ASMo. I am SO looking forward to staying in the family suites. I liked the cabin OK and enjoyed the quiet of the cabins but at the same time missed the "fun" of a regular resort. The cabins are very secluded so it is a totally different feel than a resort with lots of activity. I am looking forward to having a nice food court. Trails End at Ft Wilderness is nice but it isn't a short walk away and isn't a food court. In the suite you'll get a queen size bed in the bedroom, and a desk, and comfy chair. I didn't sleep in the bedroom when I stayed at the cabins but I remember it being a bit cramped with the full size bed and bunk beds. We did cook when I was at the cabin but I won't be missing that in the suites-we'll do easy things that can be done in the microwave but not cooked meals. One thing that was nice about the cabins that I'm sure I'll miss in the suites was a nice place to eat.

Sounds like you were thinking in the same direction as we did. The cabins looked like the best option for cooking and spreading out in the room, but we felt we needed more of a resort feel, activities and shopping for the kids (this is their first trip). We DID switch our reservation this past weekend and are beyond excited! We think this was the best choice.

FYI - we are driving, so we are bringing extra appliances to make more of a kitchen - an electric fry pan, an electric burner with a pot and toaster oven. We don't like eating out all the time.

We were wondering about the place to eat - looks like 4 chairs would be too tight around that round table. I wonder how much of a chance there would be of getting another set of table and chairs in the room?

Anyway, keep us posted on your experience and how it compares to the cabins. All the best!

ASMu is amazing! My trip in April of this year was the first time I'd been back to WDW since my internship in 2005. We went with a family suite which worked out perfectly. My mom got the bed to herself, I took the fold-out chair and my sister took the fold-out couch. What my mom really liked about the suite was A)the fact that it has two bathrooms and B)comes with a small refridgerator. (And for you coffee junkies, like myself, there is also a coffee maker in the room!)

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful! Everything is brightly colored and wonderfully decorated--which makes for some amazing shots. I recommend taking some time on at least one day of your trip to take pics of all the buildings.

There is the one downside of having to share a bus with the other two All Star resorts, but it's a small price to pay for such an amazing resort!:worship:

We're staying at ASMovies, but in the Ducks section, so I think we'll be closer to ASMusic, so I hope it's okay that I ask about it here! (If we're not allowed to use the pools and such, since we're staying at Movies, let me know, I don't want to be doing something I shouldn't!)

DS will be 22 months when we go in September, and I see there's a kiddie pool at Music...is there a playground as well? I thought I saw one on a map somewhere but I can't find mention of it, or a picture or anything! Saving his legs the hike across all of Movies would really be a relief!

Thanks for letting me know!

The All Star Music playground is on the backside of the Calypso building facing toward All Star Movies.

The pools at The All Stars are very kid friendly.

When staying at the All Stars you can use any of the All Star pools. That means 3 main pools ,3 quiet pools and 3 kiddie pools to chose from.

The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.

The Calypso pool at ASMU has Donald Duck.

And the Surfs up pool at All Star Sports has giant surf boards.

Here are a few pool photos.

I wonder how far in advance people are booking rooms? because they are still somewhat new and not a whole lot of them...are they harder to get into?

We booked a suite for our stay at the end of this month in either Feb. or March . When I called the CM told me there were only two left . . I left my name on it for about an hour then booked it :thumbsup2 . We were in a family suite last summer and my kids 16,13 and 6 now all loved it so I am sure we are going to enjoy it again .:cool1: :woohoo: .. We leave in a little more then a week :goodvibes .

I just booked my almost last-minute trip for sept 21-26:banana: . I really wanted to get back to POP, but they were booked, so I had to take ASMu. I am glad to read here that all the rooms have been updated, because that used to be a main complaint about the All Stars. Has anyone stayed at both POP and ASMu? Which one do you like better? And my other question is the distance we may have to walk to get to the bus stop. How long does it take from the farthest rooms to the bus stops/food court? Will I have to bring my stroller just to get my DD4princess: to the bus?
Thank you for any help:goodvibes

Yikes! Is that against fire code to bring all those small cooking appliances into resort room. It should be. Could you imagine the fire hazzard it would be if everyong brought in appliances like that. I mean, the room is probably not designed for that. Also, what about cooking smells traveling over to your neighbors' rooms.

I won't be running them all at once. If I can cook in a microwave, I just as easily could stink up the place! Most small appliances use less electricity than an iron or a coffee pot.

DH & I stayed at POP in September last year & won't be going back to POP ever again. It was so unmagical and we had many, many other issues at POP. That being said, we stayed at ASMu in January & absolutely loved it!! it's now our value of choice. The resort is perfect - refurbished, smaller, quieter and so nice compared to POP. You'll really enjoy your stay there. We had a standard room in the Jazz building & it was great - alot better than our preferred room at POP.

Enjoy your stay!! :cutie:

Hello,
I just booked 2 nights at ASMu before we move to Beach club. The resort looks great! Stayed at Pop in March and that was way too noisy and crowded for me. Hoping Music will be better. DD is going to love the activities. Anyway I booked a Standard room and requested Jazz. Does anyone know if Jazz is preferred or standard?? Thanks in advance.

Two weeks before our first trip to disney.
We have a family suite for 10 days. If I would like pool side can I call and request this?? So much to think about and get ready:eek:

I'm already packing!!

We stayed in a Standard room in the Jazz Building in January. It was perfect. We had a first floor room, close to the parking lot at the end of a row of Family Suites. It wasn't noisy at all, and a quick walk to the pool, food court & buses. :cutie:

It seems that everyone who really loves AsMu kind of dislikes POP. So if I liked POP, will I dislike AsMu? I am coming down for a quick trip (just myself and maybe one friend) and am considering trying AsMu since it is the only value that I have yet to stay at. POP has been my favorite value experience. Give me a reason to give AsMu a chance!By the way, do they show a movie every night at the pool?
