All Star Movies shut down- anyone know what's happening?

As a EMT/firefighter, I can tell you, and I don't mean this to sound rude, but our first order of business is to make sure civilians are safe. If that means being rude to those they wont listen to make sure their safe, then so be it.
I haven't read the whole thread so i'm not sure what the problem was exactly, but it sounds like it might have been a threat, fire, or medical emergency.
It was an exercise.

ok cool. I can see that as well. they take them as seriously as the real thing.

I haven't read every page. Was that confirmed? I know that was one of the possibilities.

Not sure what the answer is, as they do need to run tests. But I would not be a happy guest if I stayed in my room as directed and ended up being late for an ADR or Christmas party.

So... did OP even reach someone from the actual Front Desk of ASMu or someone from the Call Center?

The Call Center.

I would think that the first thing Disney is going to do is evacuate any guests and employees from the main building (where the phones are). So if OP rang the Front Desk don't they get rerouted to the Call Center if the Front Desk doesn't pick up? The Call Center people aren't going to be as informed, and you cannot think that Disney is going to endanger their employees by leaving them in a lobby to answer phones.

Whenever a guest hits the Front Desk button on the phone in their resort room the call goes to the Call Center. And this happens 100% of the time, not just during emergencies/exercises.

That is not what the Orlando Sentinel reported. They reported it was a prank phone call threatening a bomb.
Could be.
I was only reporting what someone who was there was told. (Friend's family....)

Was anyone here at a park waiting for a bus to ASMo? That must have been terribly frustrating.

If they're telling me I should stay in my room but not telling me why I'm getting the bleep out of there!! I hate it when people make decisions for me. Tell me what's going on...let me decide the course of action my family and I are going to take.

Fire? Ok get out of the building?

Suspicious bag in lobby? Get as far from the lobby as possible.

Gunman on the roof? Stay in the room.

Gas leak? Walk to next bus stop and continue my day.

Maybe I've seen too many dooms day shows. It always seems the people who follow the herd die. The people who ignore what their being instructed to do and cut their own path live to see another day. Lol

Yes, you have watched too many fake doomsday movies. They are very unrealistic.

You can't know if what you decide to do for your family would put everyone else at risk - or you could actually put your family in danger by doing the opposite of what they tell you to do, and putting rescuers in danger because you decided to ignore a lockdown.

So are you suggesting that if there was an active shooter on property, they should tell that to all of the guests, rather than just telling them to stay in their rooms until they receive further instructions? I'm sure that wouldn't cause any panic at all.

I would hope if it was that they would also say bolt your doors and stay away from the windows.

Several times, in several different places, I have witnessed people attempting to enter buildings that have been evacuated (as evidenced by crowds milling around) and fire alarms are going off. :sad2:

So yeah, I think you should do what you're told because quite frankly, people are stupid.

Oh yeah. I have been at work when we have had a tornado warning, and people were asking if we had any open registers so they could check out. :sad2:o_O:sad2:

Orlando News 6 - "Tuesday evening, a bomb scare evacuated guests at Disney's All-Star Movies resort. First responders quickly gave the all clear. The Sheriff's Office said the incident was confined to the lobby of the resort. The all-clear was given about an hour later."

Orlando Sentinel -
"The lobby of Disney's All-Star Movies Resort was briefly evacuated after callers who sounded like teens reported a bomb at the front desk Tuesday afternoon, an Osceola County sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Nothing dangerous was found, and the lobby reopened, sheriff's spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said.

A Disney telecommunications worker reported she got a call from two people, who sounded like teenage boys, records show.

They told her their son was molested by Goofy, and when she asked for their names, said "there is a bomb in the movies front desk," records show.

The employee said she could hear them giggle before they hung up.

Disney security and deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office cleared out the lobby and searched the area. They also swept the front desk, conference rooms, offices, kitchen, dining area, and arcade, records show.

Their search came up empty, and guests were allowed to go back into the lobby."

Bottom line is safety first! The CMs did what they could do to keep the guests safe who were in the area as the event was unfolding.

I hope they find these losers and they get to go to prison. Surely calling in a fake bomb threat gets prison time, right?

Brings up a 2nd question, does Disney's Bell Services also ring an off site/central location? Or do you reach someone standing in the Resort you are in?

I think you actually get bell services. I had to go get something out of our bags the day we checked out at the GF, and there was a woman down there in front of a computer fielding calls and scheduling bellmen. But I could be wrong!!!

I'm certain that calling bell services gets you straight through to the luggage department. I was waiting for some oxygen to be delivered, and when I called she put the phone down and looked for it. She came back and described what she had found, but it wasn't ours.

That's what I figured. I am still of the believe that if they wanted phone calls to the front desk to be handled at the Resort it could be done. Without a vast change in number of employees working. Other hotels manage it, other hotels that are as large as a Disney resort.

Pretty sure the same call centre will be covering all of the onsite resorts. Thats how they save money. They need less cross trained staff in one centre, rather than having a fixed number at each resort.

Call up any company (especially retail, banking and insurance) that owns more than one brand and you are likely to be chucked through to the same call centre covering all brands.
