I'm kinda confused on something. I just went to make our reservations for All Star Movies----is there a preferred room that is near Buzz and Woody? or are they all standard view rooms?

I guess my question is----is "standard" the type of room or the type of view?

Thanks for your help.

Standard & Preferred Rooms are exactly the same with the exception of where they are located. It's really not even about the "view". The preferred rooms are those that are in buildings closest to the food court (main building) and pools. That's all. It's supposed to save you some walking, especially if relying on Disney transportation while there. We stayed at All Star Movies in May of this year in a preferred room. I was worried about walking too far with my then 2 year old. But, I don't think we'll do it again. My advice, if you have your own car, it's not a big deal to drive to the parks you want. While staying onsite, parking is free so we found it easier to just drive everywhere we wanted to go. You can always park your own vehicle fairly close to the building you're staying in at All-Star Movies. If however, you are going to rely on Disney transportation, you 'may' want to stay in a preferred room. I think it's about $10 per nite more. Just depends on what you want and need. Hope this helps.

The preferred buildings are 5 & 8 (Fantasia). They are preferred because they are the closest to the Fantasia Pool & Cinema Hall and cost an extra $10/night. If you want to stay in the Toy Story buildings, all of those are standard rooms but you can request a courtyard view (not guaranteed of course). I might mention that ALL of the rooms are the same. Just the decorations inside the rooms differ from theme to theme. The preferred rooms do not guarantee you a pool view - the rooms are no bigger - no special perks other than it's closer to the main pool and lobby.

Thank you both sooooooo much. The reason we are even choosing ASM is because my son is 4 and is obsessed with Toy Story and I know he'll just love waking up and seeing Buzz & Woody. Sooooooooooo, I guess we'll just walk a little longer, but that'll be ok just to see the smile on his face.

Yeah, the price was a little bit higher for the preferred room---but I forgot to ask if that meant there was preferred rooms near Buzz and Woody. So now that I know they're all the same and it's just location, I understand.

We are hoping to go to a nicer place in the next few years, but this time just HAS to be Buzz & Woody.

Thanks again for your answers, I appreciate it.

Oops one more quick question-----are courtyard rooms overlooking the statues or what would I be overlooking? And would courtyard be better or am I going to be looking at a cement wall?

Thanks!

Courtyard is definitely better, but don't be disappointed if you don't get it. Your son will still have plenty of things to look at. You can always walk through the courtyard on your way to the food court, etc...and it's REALLY not a very long walk. It will be great! Your son (and YOU) will love it I'm sure. Have fun!:earsboy:

We stayed at AS Movies in June in the "Buzz" building (3rd floor) on the backside. It was very quiet, and we loved it.

It did seem to be quite a "hike" to the bus stop, food court, etc., especially after a long day in a hot park. After 2-3 days, or so, my husband realized that if we simply walked down the steps and around some greenery (I think-- I'm relying on my memory) the sidewalk next to the street was VERY close to the bus stop. We were really kicking ourselves for not noticing it earlier!!! Duh!!!

Needless to say, that was the route we chose from that point on.

Have fun!

If you get a courtyard view you will be overlooking "Andy's Room" where the statues of RC, Woody, Buzz, Little Bo Peep, and Rex are. Not all courtyard views are the same of course, but you get the general idea.
Walking time to the bus stop/food court area varies depending on what building/floor/room you're in (of course). Building 10 (Buzz) is right next to Cinema Hall, and if you're on the first floor with a room... say... in the 40's (there's 64 rooms per floor and the building is shaped like a T) there is a walkway directly to the bus stops. Literally, the closest you can be. Not to many people know it's there and they walk thru the courtyard, passed the pool, into Cinema Hall, and then out the front to the bus stops. (Much longer walk, but really not LONG).
The Toy Story section is very popular, so make sure you call the resort and have the request put on your reservation, and then remind them again when you check-in. They try hard to meet requests, but of course there are only so many rooms in Toy Story and so many people wanting them - nothing is guaranteed. If you don't get it the first day, you can request to be room changed when something does become available. But, this is worst case scenerio.
I worked there for over 2 years, I'm sure your son will love it.
