Okay, here's our situation.
We will be visiting Disney for 3 days. We have stayed at ASMo and really liked it. We prefer to do EE and know DTD Hilton offers EE. I know buses aren't as frequent at DTD Hilton, but we will be picking up a rental car from them when we are ready to check out...so, it is convenient to stay here. I had thought of staying at ASMo and taking bus to DTD and picking rental up, driving to pick up our baggage, and then heading to relatives for the rest of the week. My question is this: is it usually more cost effficient to stay at ASMo vs. Hilton? I've been researching prices, and the Hilton seems more expensive (which kind of surprised me). We aren't a fancy family...will use the pool one day, then just need a bed and a shower. Do you think it's cheaper to stay at ASMo or Hilton? BTW, we are talking end of June, beginning of July 2005. TIA!!! :wave2:

I've stayed at the DTD Hilton last year through priceline ($62 per night). Hotel is fine. I am not a fan of AS mainly because there are tons of kids running with a number of them unsupervised (too many people in the pool for my taste). If you've stayed at AS in the past and didn't have a problem, then stay there again as it does make getting to the parks very easy if you don't want to drive.

Hilton is a nice hotel and certainly couldn't be any more convenient to DTD. If your planning on spending time at DTD then this is the place to stay. If you want quiet time in a pool then this is your place as well. I can't comment on their bus service as I didn't use it but Disney's buses are simply a short walk away (7 to 8 minute walk tops).

We've stayed at the Hilton and it is a very nice hotel. If you can get it thru priceline then it could be worth it (we got it for $69). If codes are around for AS then I'd go with the AS.

Our reasoning: although the Hilton is a 4-star hotel and very nice, it didn't feel like I was at Disney. I still felt like I was in anywhere, USA. My family likes being surrounded by Disney 24/7 because to us it's home. I want to be home, not at anytown, USA.

If you decide to go stay at AS, the Hilton is just caddy-corner from DTD marketplace. Definitely just a short walk away. Or you could go to one of the parks, and catch the DTD hotels bus.

A question about priceline....
i've never used priceline and i understand you cannot name your hotel, correct? so, i am fearful to bid on a room and NOT get DTD Hilton.....that'd be my luck! :headache:

personally we would return to any Disney resort, including all-stars before we'd return to the mutli-starred Wyndham at DTD.

Once Disney has taken care of you, no one else can compair.

thanks for your input everyone.....i was just fishing around to see if it would be cheaper to stay at DTD Hilton vs. ASMo. depending on rate i can find, will probably go back to ASMo.
Thanks!

Summer rack rates at the All-Stars are $99, and you can usually get some kind of discount. You can check rates at the Hilton at www.hilton.com - but I'll bet they are rarely less than $99 per night.

I must agree with oogieboogie. We stayed at DTD Hilton last year for part of our Disney vacation and it was nice, but it didn't have the same feeling the Disney Resorts have. Nothing wrong with it...just not Disney.

I'm one of those people who believes on-site is always better than off. And, I consider the DTD hotels to be off-site. A few years ago, I got the Marriott Orlando World Center for about $50 on priceline. Later, I wanted to add a night at the beginning of the stay. So, I booked one of the All Stars for the first night.

We stayed in the then-brand new North Tower, almost at the top, with a distant view of Epcot. The room was beautiful. But, you know what, I longed to be back at the All Stars. Even though we travel to WDW 8-12 times a year, it's not a "real" trip to WDW unless we stay on-site.

Again, just one person's opinion here.

We have stayed at both. Most likely you will get the All Stars for less, and the transportation is much better if you are depending on the busses. At the Hilton you can earn Hilton Honors points for your stay and it is much quieter. We liked both but for different reasons. Hilton is a nice hotel, quiet and they really paid attention to our kids, as there are not many there. Movies is all Disney all the time. Great food court, great transportation. If this trip is about Disney fun all the time then go woth the All Stars. If someone with you needs a break for the Disney Fun in the evening go with the Hilton.:D

Thanks for all your input. Sounds like I will end up with a cheaper rate at ASMo. Even tho Hilton will be more convenient when we check out, I did like the availability of the bus. We don't need the "disney theme" all the time, as we visit every year. Like I said, a bed, pool and a shower is fine with us. But, thanks for your input....i think i'm just going to book ASMo. :teeth:
