I am debating weather or not I should book my reservation at the All Star Movie for a "Prefered" room or a "Standard" room. What is the difference (besides price)? Does anybody have any recommendations??? I think it is a $10/a night difference for the "Prefered" room. Is it worth the extra money? Im just looking to save a little money here and there and was wondering if it was necessary to go the way of a "Prefered" room. Thank you for your help!

The only difference is location. The preferred rooms are in the building that is closest to the building (Cinema Hall) that houses the food court, gift shop, bus stop, lobby and front desk. IMHO, it might make a 2-5 minute difference in your walk time.

If you haven't already read WDWIG's FAQ on All Star Movies, here's the link:

And here's the lionk to the DIS info on All Star Movies:

HTH!

P.S. You'll probably get more info/opinions if you post your question on the Resorts Forum.

The preferred buildings are the 2 Fantasia bldgs that are the closest to the Cinema Hall. If you don't want to pay the extra $10, request either the Toy Story or the Dalmation buildings, they are the next closest and are considered standard. We always ask for Toy Story, great location.

We stayed at the Mighty ducks building and it was great!!! The extra walk was well worth the benefits of the building. We were first floor right by the pool. The pool was less crowded than the main one, and the laundry was close by. I would NOT stay at the Dalmations. The traffic through there was loud!

We've stayed at the Movies twice now, and personally, I would not pay extra for the Fantasia Bldg. The resort is not that spread out and its an easy walk to the Food Court/Bus Stop.
In 2000, I had requested Toy Story, but we got Love Bug. It was really great - just a very short walk to the Food Court and it was so quiet!! We loved it!
In 2001, my daughter was hoping for Oddball with 102 Dalmations. She was so excited when we got it! Our room in 101 Dalmations was very quiet and again, a very short walk to the Food Court/Bus Stop!
I think its a great resort - my kids LOVE it!!!

We stayed at ASMu in June and didn't get the building we requested (Jazz) instead they put us in Country, talk about a country mile of a walk!!! I liked the All Stars but did not enjoy the long walk to and from the bus stop / food court. Remember It is also a long walk to fill up your mugs!!!

We are going again in November ASMu and this time I did pay the extra $10 fore the close building. We have three kids under six so the shorter the walk the better for us!

But if you don't mind walking 5 plus minutes to get some where then save your $10 a night.

It just depends on who you are.

Joe, if you are looking for ways to save $$$$$ you don't really need the preferred room at ASMO. We have stayed there 4 times and as others have said, the resort is not that spread out, everything is an easy walk to the food court area. We stayed in Mighty Ducks once and while some people think it is a long walk, we didn't find it bad at all.

Have a Wonderful Trip!!!

We were in Dalmation, facing the parking area and it was close to everything and quiet. We had a nice courtyard view.

If you want to overlook the pool area (and be close to all the action and noise), book preferred.

Personally, I cannot imagine why they call it preferred! Well, I guess my kids would have loved it when they were younger.

We stayed in the Woody building and I can't see the the number of steps between Toy Story and Fantasia is enough to talk about.
We did pay the extra $10 a night for our upcoming ASMu stay.
Our stay is only three nights and ASMu looks laid out like a bowling alley.
If it was laid out like ASMo or ASSp, I wouldn't have paid the extra $10 per night.

I have stayed in Buzz, Woody and Dalmations at All Star Movies and would not pay extra to have a preferred room in Fantasia.

We were close to the food courts and the bus stops and our Dalmation room had a view of the Fantasia pool and was a stone's throw from the mighty duck pool. We never had any problems with noise in any of the rooms.

The "preferred" buildings are the Fantasia one's that are behind the main building and face the pool. When we stayed there last September, we requested a standard room, preferrably in the Toy Story area. We confirmed our request a few days ahead of time and again when we check in. We got a room in the Buzz building. The location is great. We were a very quick walk to the main building and the pool. If you walk out of the main building, the Dalmation section is to your right and the Toy Story is to your left. Another plus to the Toy Story area is that it is also near the side parking lot, which made bringing sleeping kids back to our room a much quicker experience. Also, our room overlooked Andy's Room, which the kids really enjoyed. If it were me, I would not bother with paying an extra $10 a day and request a room in either the Toy Story or Dalmation buildings.

I have a question for you guys? I am considering staying at ASMo for my upcoming April 2003 trip. Thus far I have stayed at POR and CSR both being moderate resorts. I thought possibly I would request the Fantasia Bldg. due to the fact that my dd loves theme pools and will already be a little dissapointed that there is no water slide here. I thought it might be best to stay in a room as close as possible to the Fantasia pool. She does however like Toy Story and Dalmation movies but how far are they from the Fantasia pool and bus stop. Also, does it get really crowded being they only have one bus stop for the whole resort?

It is not worth it to pay the extra money...even if you are in the farthest building back, you will still be a couple of minutes from everything. The all stars are the best laid out resorts on disney property. They did a great job with them as far a planning goes.

Save the money!

Thanks but in that case besides the Fantasia bldgs which bldg either Toy Story and Dalmations is closest to the Fantasia pool and main bldg? Want to be as close as possible to the pool and of course bus stop.
