all on DDP - can you do this at TS (non-buffet)?

My husband is a vegetarian and so sometimes he has an appetizer or soup or steals sides from people. Is that something that we could do on the DDP? Use 3 TS credits and also pay OOP for an appetizer?

We have 4 "adults" but two of them are kids who don't usually finish a meal. I'd rather eat what we are served than throw away food.

you can pay opp for anything
you can also get the deluxe dining which includes appetizers for everyone in your party

I don't want *more* food - they'd have to roll us away.

I was wondering if it'd be OK for three people to use their TS credits and one to sit at the table and share or have a soup or something.

(obviously not at a buffet)

I don't think sharing is allowed on ddp, but I don't see any reason why he can't order an appetizer oop and just have that.

Would he then be saving the credits for both of you to get an extra meal or two?

yeah, carmie, that is the idea.

We will be staying 7 nights, so if we share or buy appetizer for the beanboy (DH) then we could probably save up enough to do a breakfast buffet.

You could probably order an appetizer and drink out of pocket and just explain that he won't be using a credit and that the appetizer will be his meal. As long as he doesn't then go and split a meal with anyone I don't see where the server would have a problem.

Most restaurants will let Guests on the DDP share food with other Guests in their party (i.e. also on the DDP). You shouldn't HAVE to use four TS credits just because there are four diners.

Or - not that it's a good use of credits - according to at least one Disney server who's posted here in recent weeks, your DH can use have the appetizer as his meal (and use a TS credit for it, so also get a beverage and a dessert).

Thanks. We never order 4 desserts at a restaurant and what's going to happen is we're going to end up TIPPING on 4 meals and only eating 2. It's kinda crazy. And we LIKE to share - it's a neat way to experience several meals.

I don't suppose there is a list of restaurants that are "cool" about letting a party of 4 use 2-3 credits? Sci-Fi drive-in, maybe? I'd like to share there. :)

Almost any restaurant should let you share with each other. There've been reports, although not particularly recent, of DISers having trouble at Olivia's at Old Key West, and either the Yacht Club Galley or the Yachtsman Steak House at the (naturally) Yacht Club. As I said, not recent - one was last summer, and the other some time before that.

It seems that the basic assumption is that he's making a meal or entree because there aren't options on the menu. There is usually a vegetarian option at every TS restaurant. He can also call ahead and with 24-48hrs notice they can be sure to have a meal/entree for him.

Many places have veggie burgers, pasta and veggie dishes. There are places I just steer clear of due to the menu, but for the most part good options exists.

We are also a vegetarian (we eat fish) family and had no trouble at Disney. If it were me I would enjoy my TS credits like everyone else in the party. He's Dad and already saving/paying for the trip let him have some of the fun too! :thumbsup2

Yeah, like all those great dishes with eggplant. :) Did I mention he's allergic to eggplant? (crazy laugh). I've looked at the menus of the restaurants that we'd be likely to go to and have selected a half dozen(some are picked because they're veggie friendly/ethnic, but some are picked like the one in the mayan pyramid - because it's a cool place to eat).

I sure would like your advice as a vegetarian. Have you ever tried calling ahead and having a special meal made on DDP?

Also, maybe I am not using the search feature right. I'm looking for reviews and just keep coming up with a blank search page.

Thanks

Give up on the Search feature here its so not worth the effort.

We never had to call for a vegetarian meal as I selected places that had things we'd eat.

Narcoossee's (2TS), Coral Reef, Chef Mickey's bfast, Boma dinner and Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic package.

Boma is the most vegetarian friendly of the list. Its a buffet which means choices and ethnic which means some unique things. One of the best parts of Boma is the soup bar. It is very hard to find vegetarian soups as so many have chicken or beef bases. Boma had several vegetarian soups and lots of vegetables, side dishes and casserole for vegetarians. We'll be going back here. In fact we are staying at AKL this trip.

If he eats eggs the 3 cheese dish at Chef Mickey's is amazing. There is also a veggie casserole (Goofy's veggies lasagna I think). Plenty of fruit, pancakes, etc. too.

Coral Reef had an interesting risotto choice, but we chose fish dishes there.

Narcoossee's has a pasta offering, but that is definitely a place I'd call to pre arrange something if it didn't seem to suit him. This was our best meal and the service was amazing seemed every answer was a yes; nothing was too much trouble.

The buffet at Hollywood & Vine is nothing amazing, but a nice assortment of foods entrees and side dishes there was plenty to choose from.

We also considered the Grand Floridian Cafe (might do next trip), Play 'n Dine breakfast (can't recall if you have a 4yo). We canceled because we really weren't that hungry and a CS meal and morning at the pool sounded so much better to us.

1900 Park Fare was closed during our stay, but we are considering it for breakfast. We were very pleasantly surprised for dinner about 5yrs ago and look forward to returning. We'll choose the bfast for the characters. Our 6yo is all boy and would think us a bit crazy to take him to a Princess meal! Even though he's traveling with 2 girls (Grandma and auntie) all of these choices are about him, right? :rotfl2:

I think it will depend on the restaurant if they allow you to share 2 or 3 credits with 4 people. Some may, others may not. You can order an OOP appetizer at ANY place though. There have been some reports of not allowing sharing on the DDP, and others that claimed to share just fine. I personally have freinds who's kids (adults on the DDP over 10) that were not allowed to share at Flying Fish. They were told they each needed to order their own entree, but that is the only one I know for sure. :)

I went with my Veg girlfriend with the allergy to cheese - called ahead to anyplace that looked like their might have been issues and they took really good care of her the whole trip. The only place she encountered any problems at all was at Artist Point.

That has been my fear and part of the reason we are not staying at WL as originally booked. The restaurants there are so meat focused I didn't think it was necessary to fit a round peg in a square hole. We will be staying at AKL and are so very excited. We already love Boma probably would do Jiko if we upgraded to the Deluxe meal plan and think Mara is more friendly.

I don't think there is any excuse for a 2TS restaurant to any "problems" accomodating a vegetarian. We were so bowled over by our experience at Narcoossee's I don't think I would stand for mediocrity elsewhere.

Glad to hear that she received good treatment elsewhere in the world!

either the Yacht Club Galley or the Yachtsman Steak House at the (naturally) Yacht Club.

Just had to point out that it might not be as "naturally" as you first suspect... consider the Portobello Yacht Club at (not obviously) Downtown Disney ;)
