It hits me a little too close to home, also.
I had 3 daughters in two pregnancies, and none of them survived. That was 30 years ago. If I had them the same way now - 2007 - I'm sure they would be OK. They didn't even have sonograms
then.

Another Mom of a preemie here, although Kelly did get 35 weeks in utero, but we still had the lung issues. She stayed on 100% O2 for a week and I stayed in the bed due to pre eclampsia, before that I had 4 weeks of bed rest. Actually, having the C section without laboring was a blessing for me, when she was able to come home the morning after they released be the night before I was able to tend to her with out complications. I find myself unable to watch a lot of the scenes where Zack is sitting by the isolette, it's too close to home. I remember something similar to the scene with Kendall when the priest came in. A person from records came in and wanted me to fill out all of the paperwork bout her including her name. I recall telling the girl that I wasn't able to name her becauseI hadn't even been allowed to see her yet! They wouldn't let me see her till the next morning after delivering her at 5:30 the day before. :sad1:

{{{Hugs}}} to all those who have lost children and grandchildren. There can be no greater grief. Watching the scenes with Zach are difficult. They better not let little Ian die---I was not able to watch GH for at least a year after Sam lost her baby.

My own son was a preemie--32 weeks and on 100% oxygen for several weeks--he was given a 1 in 10 chance at the time. Now he is a grown man who lost his first child to stillbirth 3 years ago--I can still hear his voice when he called to tell me the baby died....

Cast and storyline spoilers******************

Annie has a secret that she's keeping from all that love her but you know you can't keep a good secret down for long. How will Annie's friends react when they learn the part she played in her Father's condition? Painful memories resurface for Annie when Spike is found to be deaf. Annie goes to see her deaf father in Chicago with Ryan at her side.

Further tragedy strikes Pine Valley in the fall however this event will pull families together in a big way. Greenlee finds love again with Aidan. Though the tempestuous Pine Valley Princess pushes the sly detective aside, she won't be able to keep that up forever. Meanwhile Ryan is disturbed by feelings he can't shake when it comes to his ex wife and just when Greenlee has begun to move on......

The show wants to see how fans feel about Amanda and JR but no long term plans have been laid. In fact much is contingent on whether or not Alexa (Babe) leaves as planned and how quickly they can recast the role that was originally meant for Erin Presley (who was unavailable at the time). Adam finally realizes how much he needs Krystal in his life but Krystal has begun developing feelings for Tad which adds a healthy dose of complication to the mix.

Casting about:Grapevine:
AMC is casting a new love interest for Colby (Ambyr Childers) - a musician who is saving his virginity for the right woman and also an early 20-something named Gus.

Who's Coming:
Sydney Penny (Julia Santos), who gave birth to a son, Chasen Powers, on 5/31 will return to PV on 8/31.

Sneak Preview:
Kendall gets heartbreaking news about Spike on 8/6. Kendall & Greenlee realize that something is wrong when Spike doesn't even flinch at the loud crash they cause when they're fighting in his room.
On 8/7, Annie makes a mysterious phone call.

Thumbs Down:
Jonathan & Lily splitting up was a boon to both characters. Things continued to look up for Jonathan when he was nudged towards Amanda. Then the show scrapped Jomanda in favor of Java, eradicating the progress AMC had made in showing Jonathan as a valid leading man.

Pairing Jonathan (Jeff Branson) with Ava (Leven Rambin) is a step backward for AMC.

SPOILERS**********************

Kendall goes in to a hospital room to check on her son Spike, who has just emerged from major surgery.
At the sight of Greenlee visiting Spike, Kendall goes ballistic and chases her former best friend out.
Kendall and Ryan give Greenlee a piece of their mind.
It’s Ian’s turn, Kendall’s other son much younger, with Zach. His little premature, newborn body is wheeled into the operating room, awaiting risky heart surgery.
Kendall feels like a stupid loser for ever trusting Greenlee with Spike.
Ryan affirms Kendall as a mother who has done her best, and begs her not to take on the added burden of remorse over something out of her control.
Annie bestows her compassion onto Zach.
Zach’s composure crumbles in front of Myrtle.
Ryan focuses on thinking positive about Spike coming through surgery.
Annie brings daughter Emma to the hospital, along with some chow, to cheer Ryan up and keep some sustenance in him while he waits.
Zach plants himself (sob!) immovably right in front of (choking sobs!) the operating room where his newborn son Ian lay waiting for heart surgery.
Kendall can bear a mother’s heartbreak no further, as she crumbles emotionally in Erica’s loving embrace.
Erica spits fire when Jackson continues to make excuses for Greenlee.
Josh moves Kendall deeply as a concerned, loving brother for her and her sons’ welfare.
Josh refrains from adding to Greenlee’s remorse, but things are not the same between them.
Di and Babe give Greenlee the cold, cruel shoulder. Yet, Amanda cannot bring herself to join in the judgmental crowd.
Greenlee keeps quiet about her own culpability in the car crash. She flees to the beach for solace.
Aidan runs into Greenlee at the beach, calmly, seamlessly slipping into detective mode about what really happened in that car with her and Spike.
Greenlee puts up her defenses against Aidan, spouting out paranoid delusions to him.
In an effort to flee from Aidan, Greenlee’s rib injuries stop her.
Greenlee lets the truth of her confession flow out, as Aidan quietly listens without judgment. What ultimately saves her in his eyes, is her intention to drive Spike to the hospital to be with his mother Kendall.
Aidan phones Jack to come get his daughter right away.
Jack tends to Greenlee, eventually bringing up his solution for all their troubles. He tactfully advises her to do everyone a favor and just go away, that it’d be for her own good after all.
Greenlee spurns Jack’s advice, believing she need only resolve herself to moving forward and being the best, better, person that she can.
Greenlee pens a note for Kendall about how sorry she is when she realizes how futile giving that note would be, considering.
Kendall and Zach are filled with enormous relief, allowing some hope into their hearts, when doctors fill them in on the successful surgery Ian underwent.
Greenlee intrudes into Spike’s recovery room, to be closer to the boy and pour her guilt-ridden heart out. Too bad the kid can’t hear a thing.
Spike opens his eyes.
Kendall and Zach open the door to Spike’s room, only to see Greenlee there with an awakened Spike.
Kendall tries to send Greenlee to an early grave.
Adam spies his opportunity to make the most of Zach’s current family soap opera, by stealing in there and getting a fix on how to get back Chandler Enterprises.
Zach goes overboard to put a smile back on Kendall’s face.
Lily’s stubborn fixation about the matter convinces Ava to coordinate resources with Jack (and Derek), so that the drug dealer named Lenny is shut down and thus Sean’s false accusation is summarily dismissed.
Jack and Derek worry about what could go wrong during Ava and Lenny’s meeting, like, him detecting the wire planted on her person.
Jonathan practically begs Ava to consider the consequences. This means a great deal to her.
Ava meets with Lenny as scheduled, but her drug dealer smells a rat and goes to body-check her for spyware.
Next week: Kendall wants to die (or murder Greenlee) when doctors predict that Spike may live, but with profound deafness… Spike’s prognosis sends everybody into an emotional tailspin of recrimination and confession, their moments of truth… Greenlee openly owns up to her part in this… A panicky Kendall longs to grab Spike and take off… Zach angrily points to Ryan for welcoming such evil in the first place… Ryan indicts Greenlee for causing this avoidable mess with her deflecting antics… Erica prays to her late mother up in heaven, Mona, for answers… Annie phones someone up on the sly, feeling all sorts of past-traumatic guilt herself from a similar situation Greenlee finds herself in… Annie acts as if she did exactly what Greenlee did once upon a time, and caused the same deaf result in Spike… Erica orders Jack to throw Greenlee out on her rear, or face a real divorce from her… Jack holds firm to his integrity, not allowing Erica or any woman to order him around about his own daughter… Little do Jack and Erica know, but Pam has their entire conversation recorded… JR runs interference to aid Ava in distress. The two begin to quarrel bitterly… Lenny aims his betrayed sights on both JR and Ava in the bargain… Ava and JR tag-team to outwit Lenny, who’s subsequently nabbed by the cops… Krystal gets to Adam, when she shows her love. Same with JR, when his ex- showers him with consideration… Adam pretends to be Stuart, so he can get close enough to love on baby Jenny.

I haven't read the spoilers yet, and am now a couple days behind on the show, but wanted to give all the moms out there a great big hug:grouphug:

Casting news:

On 8/24, Justin Bruening's Jamie says goodbye to PV. The actor taped his final scenes on 7/20. Says Bruening: "I've set a new bar for myself that I can't reach professionally on the show. I'm trying to follow in the footsteps of Josh (Duhamel, ex-Leo), hopefully."

Highlights of his run include meeting wife, Alexa Havins (Babe), & working w/ MEK. Bruening phoned SOD from LA & says of wife Alexa:"As of right now, she's on the show & we're bicoastal."

Casting About/Grapevine:
AMC is casting a rock band that includes Corinna, a flirty twenty-something, an African-American guy named Dre, & Ren, an 18-20-year-old.

Who's Coming:
Stacy Haiduk (Hannah Nichols): Did Zach sleep w/ Hannah before she left town in May? "It's one of those open-ended mysteries of whether he satisfied her wish...and she goes off carrying his child or whether he didn't" says JHC. Hannah returns 9/14.

I'm sorry to see that Jamie is leaving. I didn't know that he and Alexa were married. That show seems to have had a lot of that: Edmound and Maria, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Are they writing out Jamie's character or getting a new actor for him?

So how did you like the soliloquys today? I thought they were a rather nice twist to the show. And I like seeing Kendall without makeup for the last several days. Now if Erica had a child in the hospital, she'd be made up and dressed to the nines.

I didn't care for the episode.

I've actually found the show extremely boring all summer - even with Greenlee coming back & the whole Spike thing. It's just so predictable. Everyone whines all the time & there is nothing exciting going on. No one stays together for longer than 2 weeks. They could make the Adam/Crystal saga so interesting, but it just drags on.

Of course, I'll keep watching though.

We've been at WDW for the last two weeks and i've been catching the shows here and there and i could have easily missed seeing these episodes and not missed a single thing. it's pretty much kendall hanging over the crib and annie and ryan stuff.
did anyone see the 'a day in the life' (on soapnet) episode with cameron mathison? he showed his whole house (lives in harlem) and wife and son.

Hot Sheet scoops from ABC.Com:

SPIKE'S TEST RESULTS LEAVE KENDALL IN DENIAL! AND ANNIE VISITS A MYSTERIOUS MAN!
Shocking news about Spike comes back: he's permanently deaf! This sends Kendall in total denial -- she thinks that someone can restore Spike's hearing and won't leave his side until a cure is found. Now she's torn between caring for Spike and her preemie Ian -- how can a mother choose between her two ailing children? Meanwhile, Ryan can't find Annie and finds out from Di that Annie left town to research about deafness but she actually visits a mysterious man -- who turns out to be her father! He is also deaf and never wants to see Annie ever again!!!

I do think they're handling the premie birth/Spike deafness story line well, but I have to agree that the show has been dragging overall. It's like it's stuck in slow motion. Maybe they'll spice things up for sweeps.

I've been watching One Life to Live more often (thanks to the "Little A" kidnapping a couple of years ago). Things just move a little faster over there.

MORE SPOILERS**********************

Scoops from Lynda Hirsch:

ALL MY CHILDREN: Kendall refuses to believe Spike's deafness is permanent. Greenlee reads about Dr. Hilliard, a doctor who specializes in alternative treatments, and hopes he can help Spike. Greenlee secretly arranges for Dr. Hilliard to contact Kendall. Ava basks in the glory of all the attention she's receiving after her and J.R.'s ordeal with the drug dealer. She meets with a manager who promises her fame and fortune. Annie beseeches Walter, her deaf father, to give her the name of the woman who helped him and their family after he lost his hearing as an adult. Walter wants nothing to do with Annie, but he does give her an address, saying she should look for help there. Annie breaks down in sobs when the address leads her to her mother's grave. Ryan overcomes a personal hurdle when he asks Annie to teach him some basic sign language. Jack gives Erica the papers making their divorce official. Zach learns that Ian needs emergency brain surgery. Di and Aidan part on amicable terms when she tells him she's moving to New York City.

Scoops courtesy of Yoda:

The news that Spike is permanently deaf rocks friends and family. Kendall has a hard time accepting the facts and fallaciously pushes to move him to another location where he can be treated. Although others insist his condition is certain, she refuses to give up on finding a cure for her son. After getting angry with Jack for not having his daughter arrested, Kendall falls asleep and dreams of stabbing Greenlee! Frustrated by the turn of events, Zach and Ryan blame each other for Spike's condition. Meanwhile, Annie cryptically tells a concerned Di that she contacted "him" and then makes arrangements to leave Pine Valley. Ava and Jonathan have dinner at the Yacht Club, where she, again, is the center of attention. JR's arrival deflects the attention, which she doesn't appreciate. The spotlight does nothing but turn on Jonathan, who hopes fame doesn't swell her head. Erica is affected when Jack hands over the papers finalizing their divorce. She breaks down in his arms as she recounts Kendall's recent ordeal. They make love, but the romantic encounter is ruined when they see their argument broadcast on the show, thanks to Pam's hidden camera.

Tidbits for the following week: Annie is freaked out when she gets a call and hears a nursery rhyme in the background. Di tells Aidan she's moving to New York City. SNEAK PEEK: Jamie says goodbye.

The News:
Spike is permanently deaf!

Co-head writers Brown & Esenstan are taking this opportunity to educate viewers, casting deaf actors, & exploring the medical options available to people who suffer hearing loss.

Assisting AMC is the League for the Hard of Hearing, & OLTL's Kassie DePaiva (Blair), whose son J.Q. was born deaf & received his first cochlear implant at 18 months. J.Q. will guest-star on AMC's New Beginnings, at Erica's invitation, because Erica is trying to show Kendall that Spike can grow up to be a normal & well-adjusted child.

DePaiva was happy to oblige as a consultant for this S/l.

Don't expect Spike's deafness to miraculously be cured soap-opera style. Brown warns: we wanted what happened to Spike to be a permanent situation that impacts his entire family."

Annie leaves town w/o a word to Ryan & reunites w/ Walter, her estranged, deaf father, to ask for his help. Greenlee consults Dr. Hilliard, whose specialty is alternate treatments, & arranges for him to contact Kendall.

Who's Coming:

J.Q. DePaiva (Jason): The ten-year-old son of OLTL's Kassie & James DePaiva (Blair/ex-Max), who was born profoundly deaf & received cochlear implants, will appear on 9/20, 21, & 24. Jason will be a guest on an episode of New Beginnings about deaf children & also share scenes w/ Kendall (Alicia Minshew).

Bob Hiltermann (Waltar Novak): Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) pays a visit to her estranged father on 8/15. Hiltermann is deaf, as is his character, & is the first of several deaf actors who will appear on AMC as part of Spike's s/l.

Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery): Bianca calls her sister Kendall on 8/14.

Who's Going:
Kelli Giddish (Di Henry): Her final airdate is 8/17, when Di & Aidan amicably end their romance & she moves to NY.

Jamie leaves to go to Africa to work w/ Uncle Jake. Most characters say goodbye offscreen.
