All FP machines to be removed from Animal Kingdom by next week and....

Getting to the park early is still a benefit...in my opinion, on our thanksgiving trip, even more so than in the past. I think FP+ is keeping even more people than usual in their beds sleeping in. We noticed much smaller groups at park opening and even early into mornings. Noon felt more like 10am. We left parks daily by 1:30-2pm feeling very satisfied with our day and accomplishing the plan I had set usually early. We almost always used FP+ in the evening. We did use FP- in the am sometimes, but not having it would not have broke our day. People sleeping in is a benefit to me, feel free to hit the snooze button people.;)

The thing is, eventually SOMEONE has to get the AM FP+'s. So that throws out the early RD strategy.

Well they have to roll out of bed to get there or they go to waste.

This is one piece of it I'm genuinely curious to see played out. I still have absolute faith in human nature for people to believe they deserve to sleep in on vacation.

I also believe those un-savvy enough to take a rope drop time fastpass are also un-savvy enough to underestimate how long it takes to get to the parks and actually miss their time.

You don't pay to ride TSMM you pay to enter Hollywood Studios. If you choose to sleep in than you are also choosing to forfeit your chances at getting a fast pass. Sound fair to me.

It's not just late sleepers. Say you arrive in Orlando in the afternoon. Many not even go to a park that day if they know fastpass will be gone. With FP+, they can schedule for later in the day. Or maybe they went to a water park in the morning, they can schedule park times later.

Yep. Even I can see this as an advantage to FP+. ;)

I completely agree. People I know say all the time that they got there when the park opened around 10am. :rotfl: Or they were at the bus stop at 8:45am for a 9am opening.:rotfl2: I found thanksgiving week park openings very light. It was a pleasant surprise considering all the changes.

But I'm here now! I get punished because you may decide to show up sometime?

Well, all things considered, it will be a very interesting day at AK this Wednesday. This will be a true test of the system. Can't wait to hear the reports. :)

I'll try to help you with your dilemma...

Lets look at what you stated. If you go to a black friday sale and get there early to buy a product and it's already gone, it's not unfair because you were not out any money.

If you are late to the dentist office and the dentist sees someone else because you were late (and didn't call) then its not unfair as you were not out any money since no dental work was done on you.

But, if someone decides to arrive at a disney park later than you and because of it can't get any FP- tickets for the really popular rides, then it "IS" unfair to them because they "PAID" the same amount that you did to get into the park that day. They are paying for a service that you can get and they can't. In your first two examples, you are not paying for anything.

Therefore, disney decided to institute the new FP+ system so that, amongst other things, eveyone has the same chance at getting a FP+ reservation regardless of what time they decide to arrive at the parks. Disney doesn't state anywhere that you should arrive at rope drop and if you don't you may not get the full value of your paid park admission.

You being a "rope drop" person and accusing people who aren't of being at fault is at best laughable. And more likely, self centered and elitist.

Hope that clears that up for you.

This post is so funny!

Can you please tell me how people who buy their ticket at the gate or cant book their trip early factor into your fairness fantasy there? Does someone who walks up to the gate and pays the same amount as you and I get the same shot at FPs to TSMM...do they get a discount since they cant book their FP+s ahead of time. NO, so once again the EARLY BIRD, the person who can decide they are going at 60 days or whatever, gets the worm vs the person who shows up at RD. Who is going to get that coveted FP+ for Soarin at 1pm, the person who booked at 60 days or the person who booked at 59 days...once AGAIN the EARLY BIRD gets the worm, and yet we all paid the same most likely.

The old system was fair, not matter where you stay, no matter who you are, not matter when you bought your ticket, if you showed up at RD, you had a more equitable chance of getting a FP than those who are still in bed.

Excellent post.

It really boggles my mind that people can not see that the EARLY BIRD will still get that worm...it will be at 60 days, who ever can be on that computer at that exact moment will be able to get those coveted FP+s instead of at rope drop:confused3. So if my computer crashes, you will get it before me, but that is fair:confused3. So if a guest is a nurse and doesnt get off in time to book before you, you will get it before her...but that is fair etc. But because I get my butt out of bed before you on that Tuesday in December and get to DHS before and stick my ticket in a machine bfore you...that is UNFAIR. I cant not wrap my head around ANY of this.

How is this fair...oh that's right it benefits you the sleep in person, and yet we the RDers are being called unfair, selfish or elitist.

Agreed. They've taken the FP+ system and put in on par with ADR's. I can see it now, people stalking the new FP+ Cancellation Board in the hopes of grabbing a FP+ for the time they need. :)

Yep! Arriving early is not about using FPs. It's about riding standby with minimal wait. No harm in that! The later people push back their arrival, the more us early risers get to enjoy less crowds.

But, they are in the FP line, while the standby line is very quick. Rope drop to me is about short waits in standby.

If there are people in the FP line at times when there weren't before, then standby waits will go up.
