All-electrionic tolling near airport?

This is what we've done to-date but I want to compare getting our own transponder vs. paying the rental car agency $2.50/day + tolls every year.

But the $2.00 is only charged to you on days you actually drive on a toll roads. So if you are only on a toll road for 2 days out of a 5 day rental you will only pay $4.00 service charge.

Here is Alamo's info regarding the program

TollPass Convenience Charge
What is a TollPass Convenience Charge?

Who can I contact with additional questions?

The TollPass Convenience Charge is a $2.00 charge for each day you use a toll express lane on roadways covered by our TollPass provider, up to a maximum of $6.00 per rental, plus the cost of all unpaid tolls.

For questions about TollPass call 1-877-860-1284.

I think that Avis has changed their policy. When we used their PlatePass last Fall, we checked our bill and were charged $2.50 every day of our vacation, even though we only used toll roads on 2 days. In 2009, we were only charged for the days that we actually used on toll roads. I recall their website description then did state that you would only be charged on days that you used toll roads.

This is what their website current says:
State of Florida
In the state of Florida the renter has the option of using Sun-Pass Only, ePass Only, and Leeway high-speed lanes. When a renter utilizes these high-speed toll lanes, the toll system identifies the car and charges the standard non-discounted fee for toll roads as published by the toll authority plus the convenience fee of $2.50 per day and $10.00 per week based on the length of the car rental. The fee will be posted to the credit card you used on your rental. Effective February 19th, the Florida Turnpike no longer accepts cash payments. By driving on this road you opt-in to use of Avis e-Toll.
Why I am being charged a $2.50 per rental day daily use fee?Customers will be charged the standard non-discounted fee for the roads as published by the toll authority plus the convenience fee of $2.50 per rental day for each and every day of your rental or $10.00 per week for use of this service.

Each rental company has their own policy regarding the charges.

I know National, Alamo, Enterprise only charge on the days you use toll roads.

I know Hertz, Advantage, Avis, Budget charge each day of your rental regardless of how many days you used the toll roads.

For myself, I tend to rend from National, so the day i'm driving from the airport and go through one toll booth, i'll pay cash no problem. When I drive down to Fort Lauderdale, on the other hand, i'll be passing through booths all day on the Turnpike and Sawgrass for some $15 worth of tolls, so in that case i'll suck it up and pay the extra $2 to the rental company for the day just so I don't have to worry about constantly getting cash out of my wallet.

If I rented from someone like Hertz that charged me for every day of my rental, i'd never use their tollpass unless I was forced to (i.e. all electronic toll road)

I know I personally figured it was cheaper to just get own transponder in long run. With 2-3 trips/yr And If I have to pay concence fee everyday+ tolls I'm got my transponder paid for in one trip. I know some rental car co only charge on days of use but i never got a straight answer from Budget and hadn't had one from alamo at time I made decision to buy.
