I just got off a chat with Member Services. They tell me that all the Studios at BWV have had their small refrigerators removed and replaced by beverage coolers. This seems like a significant downgrade and hardly the "home away from home" amenities I signed up for when we bought over 24 years ago.
One of the pleasures of having a refrigerator is doing breakfast (with milk and cereal) in the room. Those coolers are not generally cold enough to keep milk from spoiling. Also leftovers taken back to the room to be enjoyed later-not safe in a cooler.

I am going to write a complaint to Member Services and I encourage anyone who feels likewise to do the same.
And if you're fine with it, let them know that, too. I am only giving information. You do you.

Send an email now, via the member website, with this complaint. I hope the CM was simply misinformed, but maybe not!

I don’t think a studio is a “home away from home”… it’s a hotel room alternative.

Villas are designed to be the “home away from home”.

I guess you think studio apartments are also just hotel room alternatives, too? No. Studios have always been part of what were originally called HOME AWAY FROM HOME resorts. They always have had refrigerators. Now they don't. This is a downgrade. And it is a lower level of amenity than one gets at a Motel 6.

The studio room descriptions on the DVC website still declare that the BWV studios have small refrigerators. A video I have seen of a BWV refurbished studio shows a refrigerator, see https://dvcfan.com/dvc-room-tours/new-refurbished-boardwalk-villas-dvc-deluxe-studio-room-tour/.
I pointed out to the CM that the DVC website says otherwise- and the CM said that the website needs to be corrected. On the Disney webpage- where you might pay cash for a room it lists Studios as having a cooler, but also says DELUXE STUDIOS have a small refrigerator. I don't even know what that distinction means at BWV.

DVC calls all studios at BWV "Deluxe Studios." Many years ago, they were just called "Studios." Then, one day, DVC just changed the name of all of those studios to Deluxe Studios, despite making absolutely no changes to the rooms themselves. The same change was made for other resorts existing at the time. Just look at the current point charts, which calls almost all the studios at DVC Resorts "Deluxe Studios." An exception is the VGF hotel-room like studios added in the former hotel building in 2022, which are called Resort Studios, and those have the cooler rather than the fridge. Two other exceptions are the smaller room Tower Studios at Riviera and the likewise smaller Duo Studios at the newer Poly addition..

I would suggest the cost of replacing every small fridge in the studios would be very expensive. Maybe they replace them with coolers as they need to be replaced in each studio? We had fridge in December, and hope to have fridge this year too because we make breakfast in studio.

It would be helpful if someone currently staying in a studio at BWV would report the situation in their room. The OP is reporting what they were told during a chat session with MS, so it looks to me like not actually at the resort. Also, why only BWV? Seems like a possible misinformed cast member.

Are coolers less expensive than refrigerators? That's what I assumed, but someone said that they're not, that coolers are just as expensive, if not more.

I don't care what they call them, or the category in which the resorts are placed. Functionally, DVC studios have always been pretty much just hotel rooms.

I tried to be a studio person. I really did. And they are okay for popping in for a long weekend. But the idea of a week in one of those was just...thanks, but no. I quickly realized I needed to add on to stay in Villas for my "get out of winter" stay each year.
