All About Fixed Weeks (RIV/CCV/AUL/VGF/POLY/TOWER/VHD/FWC Charts)

You can't do anything online with a fixed week. I can't even add my husband to the reservation without calling (they only book it under one person).
Me who hates phone calls wondering if online chat will work
I think you have to call to cancel it because they have to make sure the right number of points makes it back into your account.
BUT you can absolutely use chat to add guests to your reservation.

The having to call MS to cancel or modify is a tiny little downside.

You have an awesome CCV week! I've been thinking about CCV resale for the same reasons you originally wanted it...a week during the Christmas holiday season.

Is it true that you can't get the rooms without walking? :(
It is VERY hard to get CCV during the Christmas Holidays. You might get it at the 11 month mark, but I wouldn't count on it.
That's why we bought FW48 there.

The one time that I canceled one of my FWs, I used chat. I did specify it was a FW reservation to alert them to make sure they refund the correct number of points. Everything went fine.

I've used chat to add guests. I prefer it, actually. I can type my message ahead of time, and then when I'm chatting, I'll copy&paste my message. That way, they can copy&paste the guest names instead of manually spelling things out over the phone and hoping for no typos or miscommunications.

I've never tried using chat, I guess since I'm usually doing 'business' stuff at this hour (5:30am) lol. I'll try next time.

I thought they might have used 2024 or 2025 to set favorite week prices at Poly since most room types weren't even around in 2023 but I guess not. If you buy a standard studio FW 39 and used it every year through the end of the contract, you would save 534 points even after paying the 10% premium (assuming point charts didn't change).
Just wanted to say thanks for doing these calculations! I bought standard studio FW 39 yesterday… loving the 534 ‘free’ points 😁

You're welcome! I spent way too much time digging into favorite weeks before my purchase trying to find the most economical options during times when I wanted to travel. The way I set up my spreadsheet it was easy enough to swap information from different resorts. We are currently planning on staying at Poly next year on Saturday before our RIV FW39 so maybe we will bump into you!

I don’t think it is what I want for family travel…but considering standard fixed week 5 because it is my preferred travel time and gets me just over 150 points. Probably would only use the fixed week once my kids are grown or if I travel alone. Is that crazy? Standard view, Polynesian studio. Yeah, the point chart does suck.

I don't think it's a bad call. We bought week 7 at Riviera and I very likely won't use that for at least 10 years (until my son is in college). I was eyeing up a week 6 at Poly just to have both options for the future.

Agree with this - I own FW 39 and 44 at Riv and plan to do just this (which is still several years away)!

Also eyeing Week 1 at Poly!

Has anyone spent time looking into the duo studios in the tower? I’ve been trying to follow along with all of the other conversations and vaguely recall someone mentioning they thought the duos would be near the elevator banks (which would be a dealbreaker for me, unfortunately…).

Can’t seem to find that comment…have a note out to my guide, but not hopeful she will have much to say.

[Realizing this is probably better suited in other chat!]

Trivial question about FW: when do you get points? You don't have a typical UY; So do they take the month the FW is in? or FW - 11 months UY? Do they give it to you at the beginning of the year when you pay your annual dues?

It has a use year like any other contract. In most ways it is the same as a normal contract. The only difference is Disney will book that fixed week for you ahead of the 11 month window and there is no modifying that reservation, only keeping it or cancelling it. You can use the points for something else ahead of the 11 month window and then the reservation won't be made as all of the points are required for them to book your fixed week.

For example, my use year is September and I have fixed weeks 39 and 50. I can make any reservation that starts September 1st or after to use those points each year, and they will make the week 39 and week 50 reservations for me if the full points are in those contracts between 12 and 11 months ahead of time.

My (non-FW-owning) understanding:

You still have a use year.
Each use year’s points run from the 1st of that month to the day before the first of that month next year.
Your FW is booked for you at about 12-11 months before the date of the stay. If you’ve already used any of the points for that UY though (borrowed, etc) then they wont book your week, because you’ve already pulled from that year’s points.

I’d also add that certain UY won’t make sense for certain FW should you need to cancel your week. For example, I own FW52 with a Dec UY - which is ideal. If, instead, I had a UY that didn’t provide the 4 month window should I need to cancel, it would be problematic (and my pts would go into holding).

To clarify, holding status happens for any trip canceled less than 31 days from check in, even if you are still within your banking window.

So, even your FW could be in holding if you canceled it early December, even though you are within a banking windo.
