All Aboard! The Great Land and Sea Getaway - May 2009 PTR

I like the beach one but that is probably cause I am a Ca girl living in Az....I also like the tour and shopping. You ae making me miss DCL-someday we will go again!

Hi Lessa! I'm joining! We are staying May 16-23 at AKL but unfortunately we can't afford a cruise right now. We're kind of pushing our luck on the trip because the outlook at my place of employment is a bit bleak. Who can pass up the 4/3 deal?? For now I'll just live out my dream of a Disney Cruise through everyone's trip reports.:goodvibes

Keep the plans coming!

Leanne

Just wanted to let you know I started my pre-trippie

Going to check it out. :thumbsup2

Cool, maybe we will see you around the lodge. :magnify:

Hope everything works out on the job front. This economy is killer for a lot of people.

So a trip to WDW in May is exciting for many reasons. Not only do we get to enjoy the everyday magic of the parks but two special events will be occurring during our visit.

The first is the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot and the second is Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios.

I have 2 days set aside for each park so that we can fit in all the regular attractions and still get to fully experience these fun events.

Mom and I love gardens so we are really looking forward to the Flower and Garden Festival. It should present some great photo opportunities.

Star Wars Weekend should be interesting as Mom has never seen Star Wars! :scared: Crazy I know! We just happen to be traveling the opening weekend of this event so I could not pass up the opportunity to attend. It should be a lot of fun, I just need to get Mom to watch the movies before we go so that she is not totally lost as to who everybody is. :lmao:

I was rethinking ADR's last night, trying to decide if I want to add the dining plan or not. I decided not too, $560 for food for the week for just the two of us seems a bit much as I know that we can eat table service meals and still come out spending less money than that. It is too bad as I like the ease of having everything pre-paid. So here is our new itinerary:

May 16th - Arrive at MCO around noon
Check-in at AKL, hopefully the room will be ready.
Eat lunch at the resort or off property.
Afternoon/evening poolside
Dinner at hotel or off property

May 17th
- Epcot
Lunch at counter service or maybe Le Cellier
Dis Meet at 3pm @ France
Dinner at Chefs de France

May 18th - Animal Kingdom
Lunch in park, counter service
Evening at Downtown Disney
Dinner at T-Rex, dessert at Ghiradelli's

Anybody know if you can make ADR's for T-Rex through Disney or if there is a separate number you have to call?

May 19th
- Magic Kingdom
Lunch at counter service or Liberty Tree Tavern
Dinner at The Plaza
Spectro and Wishes!

May 20th
- Hollywood Studios
Lunch at Sci-Fi
Dinner Counter-Service
Hopefully we will get to see Fantasmic all depends on crowds etc.

May 21st
- Epcot
Lunch - Beaches and Cream
Dinner - Counter Service

May 22nd - Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends
lunch will be Counter Service in the park
Dinner ood property or at the resort

Love the new itinerary! $560 for a week for two people is INSANE! Was that for the regular dining plans?! We're spending only a little more on food for 4 people for 2 weeks  I guess if you do a lot of signature restaurants it makes sense but that just seems really expensive!

Yep that was for the regular dining plan! That is $560 American too so convert that into Canadian dollars (which is pretty weak right now) and it is $695! :scared1:

I figure we are going to be getting nice fancy sit-down meals every night on the cruise ship so we don't need to be splurging on fancy meals while in WDW.

Jiko for example, I really really want their Filet but it is $39! My meal total for that one restaurant by itself would have been around $60. I could eat 6 counter service meals for that much money, that is three days of vacation! If on the dining plan it would have taken 2 credits so not a deal that way either. I guess I am just cheap. :confused3

I guess I'm cheap too :lmao: I just can't justify spending $40 on one thing to eat, especially when you know how cheap it was for them to make it  I hate how overpriced some of the Disney restaurants are!

Thanks, I am trying to make this a more relaxed vacation. Just soak everything in, no rushing around just take our time.

:lmao: I know what you mean.

I am not a fancy eater so I am fine with my counter service options and a few table service restaurants scattered throughout. Out big "splurge" is going to be Chefs de France. I think my meal there will be around $25. :lmao:

Chefs looks so good! We're trying it for the first time this summer so I'm looking forward to reading your review!

I loved Chefs ! Ihad the Shrimp and scallops and fordessert the appl crepes which were my favorite dessert !! This is one place would not go with the family I could just hear DGS if he realised what escargot was!!!:lmao:Lessa I am really loking forward tometing you and Mom on the 17th !!

Right now this is what I have my eye on:

Original flatbreads from the brick oven - Champignons sauvages et quarte fromages - Wild mushrooms and four cheeses $9.25 (split with Mom)

Gratin de macaroni - Baked macaroni with cream and gruyere cheese $18.95

Creme Brulee - Vanilla creme brulee served with a Madeleine $7.25 (we'll see if I even have room for dessert)

I could never get my family to eat there. I took one look at that menu and said to myself everyone will go hungry!!! :rotfl2:
I would love to try it!!!

 I wouldn't eat most of what is on the menu either, I am very picky but I have been wanting that pasta dish ever since I read a review on it over a year ago.
