All Aboard! The Great Land and Sea Getaway - May 2009 PTR

well that's a bunch of crap!

What!? That's crazy wrong!

I know! The ship is cashless so everything you buy onboard gets charged to your room so I can understand needing to have a credit card on file like you can do at WDW but I think it is excessive to make people put down a $500 deposit at the very start of the trip. Why should I have to have a $500 charge on my card for a week? That is money I have to pay interest on that I am not even going to spend!

Mom and I don't really drink so we probably won't be buying any drinks onboard, we aren't going to be having any spa treatments and I doubt I will do much shopping on the ship, maybe buy a pin or something so really our only expenses are the excursions and our meal at Palo. Those things are all covered already by our onboard credit we got for booking online and then transferring to Dreams Unlimited. So really at the end of the trip we will only owe them less than $100 probably.

Hopefully when we check-in I will find out that the book was wrong and that they just need a card on file and that they are not actually going to charge anything to it until the end of the trip. It's a long shot but here's hoping!

Well I went and asked about this bogus $500 deposit thing on the cruise boards and it turns out that the Passporter was wrong and that they simply put your card number on file to be charged at the end of the trip like at the resoirts. Thank goodness!

Just wanted to say that I hope you have a great time on DCL...I am even more addicted to DCL than I am WDW.....we were on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic and got hooked....been on 17 times already and have 3 more booked. so, if you have any DCL questions, please don't be afraid to ask away. I will be glad to help.

I did not read the whole TR so didn't catch which itinerary you will be on....East or West?

Here is a link to my Webshots pics of some of our past DCL cruises.....my most recent one was on the Eastern in January.

Well at least you dodged that $500 bullet, that would have been really dumb for them to charge, cause a cruise doesn't cost enough already, right?

Thanks, I'll go check out your pictures. :goodvibes We are doing the eastern route w/Tortola, really looking forward to it!

I know right!

Just so you know it is a common practice for hotels/ resorts to put a charge on your card when you leave it on file. This charge won't show up on your bill as it is mainly just a hold to say that yes you do have the money, also if you excide a certain amount on your stateroom account they will atomically put through a payment to your card. Also don't forget all of your shore excursions will be billed to the card on file on the day of the excursion.

The excursions shouldn't be billed to my card as I already have an onboard credit so that should cover the excursions.

I have been looking at the Food Porn thread this morning and it is making me want to eat all our meals at Wolfgang Puck Express! All the food there looks so good!

Hi,

All caught up.

That $500.00 would have scared me. Glad you don't have to do it.

Your right I worded it badly and meant that those will be added to your stateroom account on the day of your excursion. Also a great palace to rack up room charges is the cove cafe.

I thought that $500 deal sounded weird. I'm glad you got the correct info.

Not to be a downer, but I thought WPE was just OK. I've only eaten there once. It looked and smelled wonderful. I think in my TR I said the best thing was the brownie. Not what you really go there for.

No kidding!

:cutie: No problem there either, I don't drink coffee and neither does Mom!

Hmmm, maybe it was what you ordered or an off day? I have read so many good reviews of the place. Got to try each place at least once!

Here's a couple of pictures for you (I'll post them in my TR, but I'm posting them here first just for you):

I had the Chicken Tortilla.

And Chuck had the BBQ Chicken Focaccia.

Mine was a bit spicy, but so, so, so good! :thumbsup2
