Alien Encounter... love it or hate it?

Myself & DH went on this ride for the first time last June. I read all the warnings & was prepared to get SCARED!!!
Well, after the ride was over I looked at DH & said "THAT IS IT????"
I personally thought the ride was "boring" & really didn't have the scare factor that I heard about. Maybe I don't scare easily, I don't know....but it is a ride I will pass up, unless I am with someone that really wants to go on it.

Love it...This is the first attraction that DH and I have ever done together. We will always have a place in our hearts for skippy.;)

I thought it was just so-so. I laughed the entire time. The whole thing felt very unrealistic to me.

And whenever I see "Chairman Clench," I keep getting images of poor beleaguered Principal Rooney from Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Jeffery Jones will never escape that role!).

Love it!! Though nothing is like the first time you go on it - it is not that scarey after the first time!

This is coming from a real chicken - who was scared the first time!! I am too nervous for RNRC or TOT!! it took me ages to work up to going on Test Track - I love that now too!

Oh to have 'the nerve' - will I do Mission Space!?!

http://www.wdwinfo.com/abbreviations.htm And welcome.

Never been on Alien.

I have done Alien Encounter once.. that is all it took.. I do not like being strapped down in the darkness....has to do with being claustrophobic and then add in all the extras that they do.. well needless to say.. once was enough... :)

I love this ride! It still scares the crap out of me but it's great to get that heart pumping!

AE is one of my favorite attractions at WDW. I hate scary movies and refuse to watch them and I do agree, it is a little twisted and I feel for poor little skippy. That said, I still like it - what does that say about me??

The story line/themeing is really great - from moment you go through the turnstiles. The "announcements" on the monitors when you first enter are great. I love it when the CM is walking around overhead and shining the flashlight ( I think that is what happens). And the breathing on the back of your neck. It doesn't scare me - it just fun to take it all in.

My husband hates it - won't ride it with me. And I wouldn't take my DD (age 7) on it yet, even if she wanted to.

That's all just MHO.
:)

I realy hate this ride, but the oh so NOT normal person in me loves to take someone on this ride for the first time. I hate the darkness, the breathing on the back of the neck, being strapped dowwwwn. For all those that hate this ride, it will be closed after the first of December. That is when i will be taking my sister on it for the first time. She is a screamer and when she's done the place will be laying at our feet:earseek: So enjoy this ride while you can. Susan

I crushed my wife's hand, sunk in my seat, wish I could get out; she wants me to go again this February.

I don't love it or hate it. Aside from a loud sound or two that made me jump I thought it was okay but not great. It had the potential to be great if they had indeed made a few animatronic aliens that came up out of the floor and out of the ceiling but they didn't. The Alien in the glass tube is not that well done (probably why he isn't shown for very long) and the comic asides from the soundtrack totally blow the mood. I do see how it can be scary for some people. Just not me. I think it is more fun to watch the audience than the show.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Took my then DD6 on not knowing any better... Mind you she had already gone on TT and ToT (My little Daredevil) she did not freak but does not like talking about it and has no desire to try it again..... This year she will be turning 9 during our trip and I am taking her parasailing on her birthday, so maybe after a flight of 450 ft. in the air I can talk her into trying AE one more time:smooth:

I love it ! However, I always put in my ear plugs just before going into the main show. I intensely dislike very loud noises.
My ear plugs work well to soften the loud noises while I still hear everything.

I love it!
I think it is different, fun, and a little creepy, that's what makes it cool. I am not sure that it fits in the MK but in and of itself I think it is good.

We love it and the dialogue is very humorous if people would stop and listen to it....Not every attraction has to be catered to all ages at WDW...Others are aimed at differnt age groups, using Dumbo, The Barnstormer, Space Mtn, Tower of Terror and Rock N Roll Coaster as examples. There is something for everyone at WDW is my theory...Enjoy!!

To kbkids, who wants to know about taking the 6 year old on this ride:
You, of course, know your child better than anyone here. This was my experience with AE.
We took our 9 year old twin boys. I explained the storyline to them ahead of time. I told them it would be dark, loud and scary. These boys loved scary movies, etc. They were very excited to go on. One son screamed and cried the whole time. Of course, you can't help a scared child on that attraction, because everyone is strapped in. Following that, he was crying on Haunted Mansion later that day, even though he had been on HM at age 6 and loved it. THIS summer, at age 11, he refused to go to "The Haunted Lighthouse 4D" at Busch Gardens. Unfortunately, I think he may never go on a "scary" atmosphere-type attraction again. We thought he was ready for AE. He wasn't. The other twin was fine.
Definitely go on yourself first, so you know what to expect.

I have never been on AE because I am a big fat chicken (LOL). I do not like anything dark, creepy, and scary.

I did not go into the HM until I was in my 30's!!!

DH, however, has been on it and LOVED it!!!!

Alien Encounter is one of the best attractions at all of Disney World. It has great theming, uses newer technology and -- most importantly -- is unique in that it's not simply a "thrill ride." I certainly hope they don't dumb it down a bit if they make changes to incorporate the Stitch character.

Was scared to DEATH!

My oldest DD now 12 was all pumped up to do this 'cause she loves the coasters etc and saw the signs and figured "no big deal".
Well, I never have heard her scream so loud. I think she was Ok until the blood thing sprays and that was it. If she wasn't restrained she was gone!

We still laugh about it but I know she will not be doing this again in December.

Cheers,

Schuey
