This may be a Western Massachusetts thing, but do radio stations near you play Alice's Restaurant (Arlo Guthrie) on Thanksgiving? I remember this from the late 70's through the 80's. The local stations used to play the song every year.

The 18 minute song is a story that takes place on Thanksgiving Day in West Stockbridge, MA. It's quite amusing. Fortunately, I taped two versions many years ago. It's a tradition for us to take a rest from holiday prep to savor a warm apple cider (with rum) and listen to Alices' Restaurant.

When I lived in the Hudson Valley (NY), the local classic rock station would play this every Thanksgiving Day (twice). Not sure if they do it down here, first year here............. Would be nice, kind of a tradition :)

It's a Thanksgiving tradition on at least one station in Hampton Roads, Virginia!

Glad to hear that it's still being played!

"You can get any thing you want, at Alice's Restaurant."

WPDH! We used to drive from NJ to my brothers house in the Saugerties area for Thanksgiving every year and always looked forward to hearing it!

I'm fairly certain that they don't play here in the Seattle area. I lived in Lenox from 1961-1969 so am well aware of Alice's Resturant! We even went out and bought the DVD. My DD's(6 and 11) can sing the chorus! We might just have to watch it again tomorrow!

That's the one!!!! :)

I can hear it now:

".....the Group W bench...."
"..... 47 8x10 glossy photographs......."
"..... inspected, injected, infected, rejected..........."

I haven't heard it in a few years. I miss it.

It has become a tradition every thanksgiving just before we all sit down to eat dinner my dad puts his album on of "Alice's Restaurant". :goodvibes

Unfortunately this year I don't think that will happen :guilty: I guess I will have to catch the radio staions version at noon!!!

Thanks Mickey's Sunshine for pointing this thread out to me!!! :wave2:

I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and
he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down
yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me,
sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."

I live about 20 minutes from Arlo's house and about 40 minutes from Stockbridge and I don't believe they play it on any of the radio stations here. Interesting! :)
