Aldi meat prices?

I am really trying to save on my grocery bill, and meat seems to be the most expensive part of it. We have an Aldi about 25 minutes away, I have never been there though. I am wondering how their meat prices compare to regular supermarkets? I would be interested in things like chicken breasts, roast, lean ground turkey. I would also look at their produce and a few other staples like milk and butter. Is the quality good? And is it worth a 25 minute drive?

I would not drive 25 minutes for aldi's meat. I have one 5 minutes away and I don't buy my meat there. I'm sure the meat is just fine, but it doesn't look right to me so I don't buy it. I just stock up when meat is on sale at my grocery store.

We have always shopped at Aldis (even growing up, my parents drove 45 minutes for groceries! I have 5 siblings we were always on a budget) I go there first, then do WalMart for those things they don't have or I prefer there. I don't care for Aldis ground beef, it seems a little fatty - even the leaner. But, I buy their frozen ground turkey, (maybe $1 or so each) their frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts, in my opinion are much better than your usual store brand. It's about $5 or so for a... 4 lb bag? Whatever the price, it's much cheaper than at Food Lion or WalMart. I also buy the large pork tenderloins, cut them and then separate them into freezer bags. Milk and butter are cheaper there, as well as eggs. There are the occasional items that aren't-- refrigerator biscuits usually less at WalMart, or Food Lion if they're on sale. Half and Half at Walmart is less in a larger container, and the produce is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great and they have a wonderful variety, other times it's not as great. Toilet paper is fine, but I don't like the paper towels. I used to drive 30 minutes to get to one (now we live closer). Maybe go to check it out, and try some things... Then you can go from there. Remember you do have to bag your own things, so take your reusable bags or be prepared to buy theirs. 10 cents for plastic and 5 for paper. Send me a PM if I can help you out anymore! Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I am thinking I should at least check it out. Right now I generally shop at Meijer or Kroger (whichever has the best sale for the week) and occasionally Walmart. I already coupon so trying to cut costs on meat and other non coupon items like produce is the only thing I can think of to reduce the grocery bill. I am just hoping the quality is good, it sounds like it can be pretty hit or miss.

I've never bought beef at Aldi, but the bag of chicken breasts has a pound more in it for a dollar less than our Wal-Mart.

I am not a fan of the meat from Aldi's. I only tried their ground beef and frozen chicken breast cutlets but won't buy any meat from there again.

Our Aldis does not have a very good selection of meat.
I usually go to BJ's for meat.

Aldi is a great store for your pantry staples. However, hamburger is a no go! It is on the fatty side...stick with Meijer for your beef. Chicken on the other hand and pork are the two meats that are great deals at Aldi.

My husband and oldest son both work for a company that transports Aldi groceries and my B.I.L builds the aldi stores. Here is some inside info: The cereals they sell are General Mills just with Aldi packaging. Their canned vegetables are Del Monte and the peanut butter is Peter Pan (again just different packaging).
Produce is often purchased within a 200 mile radius of the nearest distribution center to ensure quality. That is why the selection can vary wildly. The milk and eggs often come from an in state dairy.
And if you love Dixie Crystals sugar...guess what--the Aldi brand is Dixie Crystals....
For your pantry staples it is hard to beat the Aldi pricing unless your local supermarket has a great sale and you have coupons
Make the trip at least once..you may find some hidden gems. Any time that I go I have to buy a supply of the frozen Cordon Bleu stuffed chicken breasts in the frozen section. My family loves them.....
Don't forget that you bag your own groceries, and you will need a quarter for you shopping cart (you do get it back, unless you pass it on like we do).

Every time I go to Aldies I look over the meat selection. I have yet to purchase any of it.

I shop at Aldi frequently. I seldom buy the fresh meat though, because I can usually find better prices at other groceries stores when there is a sale. Things like ground beef and pork loin I always get at Sam's Club. I have a large freezer, so I stock up when I find sales. The few fresh meat items I have bought at Aldi have been good though. I do buy more of the frozen meat items though.

A co-worker of mine buys the vacuum packed ribs (I think they're precooked), and she says they're very good. I buy a spiral ham a couple of times a year (they only have them around holidays), and those are excellent. I've also purchased the frozen bags of chicken breasts, and those are good. The frozen chicken nuggets are comparable to Tyson, in my opinion. We like the turkey bacon, and DH likes the cheap 99 cent bologna. We also like the frozen beer battered fish fillets.

We have an Aldi's 1/2 mile down our street. Like any store they have thier good prices and thier not so good prices. Sirlion in our area @$3.99 lb. is a decent price but they didn't have it the two times I went last week. That is my biggest issue with thier meat section. I would speculate on average comparison they are higher priced than the competition in the area, as far as meat goes, 50% of the time. They do have good buys for the most part in other areas. As far as quality I would rate them no better than or less than the other chains in our area. My moto is shop for your best deals at all locations if gas isn't an issue.

We have three Aldi's in our area and I will only buy meat at one of them. It is always fresh and is decently priced. They have been doing a meat special of the week on Wednesdays and a few weeks ago I got whole Tyson chickens for $.69lb. I love their fit and active ground beef as well as their thin sliced pork chops.
