Aldi is not "all that".

People steal credit card numbers too. I don't think the risk is any worse with Debit.

But stealing my credit card doesn't drain my checking account...so credit cards are my preferred choice of payment, I rarely use my debit card and almost NEVER have cash on me.

Aldi has the best hot chocolate. Plus, if I am not buying organic, they have the best veggies and price around here.

I could probably hit loss leaders but I don't have time to hit 4 different stores in a week.

I think a lot of the reasons people don't like aldis are kind of silly. Not being able to use a credit card, having to put a quarter in a cart. :confused3

Why are the silly? I hate having to use a quarter for the cart. I think it's ridiculous to have to put it in, in the first place.

They are here too. Debit cards are also protected, but for some reason many people seem to think they aren't. Still doesn't stop people from stealing the numbers though.

It's not that they are not protected, for me it's the fact that they get the money out of my checking account and it takes a lot longer to get the money back, at least with my credit union and bank.

My american express, the nanosecond I call and dispute a charge it's immediately taken off my bill and Amex will investigate. My credit union I have to fill out fraud forms, file a report and then wait 7-10 days.

I have no credit card so there's no debate for me. I use my debit card or I don't shop there because I don't carry cash. I've managed to make it this long using my debit card without any issue, so I think I'll be fine. :goodvibes

The Aldi we shop at here by Disney has milk for $1.99 a gallon (almost $2 cheaper than even Publix), eggs for 99 cents each. Not sure why the price is so different for so many.

We use Aldi only for staples and milk. I can't stand their meats.

We like all of their meats EXCEPT the bacon wrapped filets that someone mentioned earlier in the thread. They have a very very strange texture. All the other meats we have purchased from Aldi have ben good though. DH told me never to buy those filets again! LOL! I said since I too thought they were horrendous, I didn't think it was something he needed to worry about. :lmao:

otoh, Your car isn't going to be hit by a cart in the parking lot. lol.

I enjoy Aldi for the humorous off-brands.

Trader Joe is owned by Theo Albrecht.

His brother Karl owns Aldi.

Both Albrecht brothers own(ed) Aldis. They simply divided up the business by regions.

If I am not mistaken Aldi Süd owns and operates the Aldi stores in the US and Aldi Nord owns and operates Trader Joes. Even though Aldi Süd and Nord are two different entities, they are very much the same (lived in Germany and know firsthand).

You can also buy Trader Joe brands in Aldi's in Europe.

I can spend $75 a week at Aldi's vs $150 at Wegmans, not including meat or fish. Baking supplies are top quality at half the price at least.
I've been shopping Aldi's the last few months and throwing the extra $75 into savings for vacation spending money. I do miss Wegmans, but it's just too tempting to over spend there when I'm trying to save money.
I buy the limited meat we eat at a local butcher. Cheaper, fresher and they cut and freezer wrap it any way I want it. Fish is from Palmers, same thing.

I keep my "Aldi quarter" in my van's ashtray and everyone knows not to touch that quarter, LOL! :rotfl: Easy enough. ;)

I go at least once a month to stock up on all of my pantry and freezer stuff. Ours has a very small produce section so I usually get that stuff at Kroger, but I probably save over $200-300/month on what I do get at Aldi. There have been a few things I have not been impressed with, but for the most part I love it.

And they are ALWAYS cheaper on milk than any other grocery store around here!!

 I keep an Aldi quarter in the car too. We went through a .20 toll the other day and dh reached for it in the ashtray. I grabbed his arm and said-oh no! Not my Aldi quarter! He looked at me like I was nuts.
Hey- nothing worse than getting to Aldi's and not having that quarter. :scared1:
I also keep canvas totes in the trunk all the time so I don't forget.

I'm a sometime Aldi shopper. I've found that milk is always cheaper. They have the iced sugar cookies for $2.50 ($5 at the grocery store) and their brand of Oreo's are awesome and you can get the chocolate filling. mmm
Bottled water was cheap too, $2.79 for 28 I think.

I'm not a regular shopper but they do have some good bargains. My brother, who lives in LAX, has to go to Aldi when he comes to visit. He loves their german chocolates and coffee. He is a Trader Joe's regular but can only get the coffee at Aldis.

we do not have an Aldi within 150 miles of us, but I read this thread on Friday and happened to go out of town yesterday for something else and saw an Aldi so I decided to stop. I acutally like the idea of a cart for a quarter as I am so sick of people leaving carts all over the parking lots when they are too lazy to walk it back to the "cart Corral". I often have to get out and move a cart to park or one comes barreling across the paking lot and hits cars. I think this is a good idea...it may eliminate some of these lazy people who cannot walk their carts back.

I went in with a complete open mind and not sure what to expect. I have to say that there were things that I didn't think were cheap, but took notice of a lot of items that were very decent price. Milk really grabbed my attention at $1.50 less a gallon that what I pay at the grocery store. Someone mentioned the chips are good and cheap...agreed....The produce was extremely cheap. I bought a 3 pack of green pepper as I always buy when on sale, chop and freeze for when I need to use for cooking. I was also excited to find nuts and vanilla...bought both. This is going to sound funny but I was refrigerated cinnamon and Orange rolls in a tube...have not had the orange ones since I was a kid and my family loves the cinnamon grands..these were almost $2 less a tube than the brnd name ones and we had them for breakfast and they were actually beter.

That being said, there is no way I could do all my grocery shopping here, but this would be a great first stop on my grocery run.

Ialso do not have time to run all over town to pick up the loss leaders at several stores....and do not buy much from Super Walmart....except cereal.
