Hey everyone! We are going on our first disney cruise in July!!

My husband and I took an NCL cruise back in October and ended up spending a little too much on alcohol :rolleyes1 The prices just seemed SO high ($10-12 on average for a tropical drink)! Each time we got a drink, they seemed to automatically give them to us in a souvenier-type cup. Now I'm thinking there was probably a way to get them in a regular cup or refill our souvenier cups for a cheaper price if we had just known to ask...

Is this how it is on DCL? Will I need to ask the bartender/server each time to refill my cup (to get the cheaper price)? And does this option even exist??

Any tips/suggestions on how to save money on drinks would be appreciated! I don't think we are interested in bringing our own alcohol because we mainly drink the tropical drinks that take quite some work to make delicious :goodvibes

Unless you purchase a drink from one of the servers walking around with them already made, you can order at one of the bars and ask for a regular cup. The souvenir cups are more expensive - that's probably why NCL gave you one every time. Not only did NCL make more money, but the bartender made more on the automatic tip.

Also on Disney, you are allowed to bring your own alchol on board (only in your carry-on) so you can save a few $$ that way as well.

Hey...to go along with the OPs question....does anyone know how much the drinks on the dinner menus are?

The drinks of the day ranged around $5 in a regular cup. Some were even $4.

That's not too bad! Does anyone know if you have to ask specifically for a regular cup each time you get a drink? Or will most of the bartenders/servers ask you your preference first? On NCL, they just automatically gave you the fancy cup to make more money...too bad we didn't realize about the whole regular cup thing sooner!!

The only time we've ever been severed the fancy cup was at the sail away party. Any other time they automatically gave us a regular cup

Usually unless you ask at a bar you get the normal cup. As said at the sailaway they walk round with made up drinks as well as at the Pirate party and sometimes around the pool in the afternoon. These come in sovenir glasses usually

All drinks come in regular cups. You will also have a fridge in your room.. You can bring your own alcohol and mixer if you like. Or you can go to the drink stations to get limited mixers. While you are not supposed to take your own drinks on deck with you, if you have an insulated mug I can guarantee no one is going to ask to see the contents of your mug. I was pregnant on my last cruise so i couldn't take advantage of this. Going with the entire family this year and definitely plan to stock the fridge!
