Going to WDW for the 1St time in june. soooo excited. can anyone out there help me with a couple of questions please:-

How much is the Lager/Wine/Vodka in the supermarkets and in the restaurants also is there a Publix or Walmart within walking distance of the maingate east area in kissimmee. Not hiring a car is this such a bad thing to do.

beer cheap from supermarkets dear when bought in resturants with food wine its cheaper over here than the us spriits little bit cheaper if hotel not got transport to parks ect would recomend a cars as a must dont forget that the states are built for the car so a walk across the road to the shop can take a hour

A Case of Bud (20 bottles) is approximately $13-15 at Walgreen’s
Draft in bars normally $4-$5
Domestic Bottled beer (e.g. bud) $4.00
Premium bottled beer (corona) $4.75
Spirits $6-$10 in bars

If you are going to drink in bars dont forget the Happy hours.

you can buy beers in the supermarkets, but dont forget if you want to buy spirits you will need to go to a liquor store. I have never knowingly seen one in all the time we have been to Orlando, but then i wasnt looking!

Unless there is a major reason for not hiring a car ( i.e. being under 23 and the insurance is going to cost a fortune) I would reconsider this choice. Orlando isn't really set up for non drivers and while it is possible to have a great vacation without driving, it's certainly a lot easier to have a car. Savings in time and transportation costs really mean that it isn't a financial saving not to have a car, it's just a personal choice.

For me, having a car means I would be able to drive 10 minutes to visit a cheaper restaurant than is within walking distance, it means I'm not limited to the 4 or 5 restaurants that are within walking distance, it means I can come and go to the parks as I wish and it means if I go on a major shopping trip I can put the things I buy in one shop in the trunk (boot) of the car while I go to the next mall/group of stores. Driving in the US is, IMHO, FAR easier than in the UK. The roads are wider, better laid out and easier to navigate.

You can have a great vacation in Orlando without a car, but IMHO it's just much easier to have access to one, it opens a whole new world of possibilities up to you.

I never knew this in all the times I have been to Orlando. I very rarely buy spirits and if I do I buy them at the airport duty free. I don't recall seeing many liquor stores but I'm sure there is one next to the publix on 192 heading West from I4 just past the Key W Kools restaurant. However don't quote me on this as it was a while ago I was there.

Just a couple of points:

Wine seems to be quite expensive, even from the supermarkets (or perhaps I'm just used to drinking cheap wine here :teeth: )

I think there's a liquor store on I-drive.

the liqour store on idrive is at the crossroads of sandlake 200yards heading to airport nerest to disney exit crossroads exit left about a 2-3 miles on right
