Why doesn't Disney serve alcohol in MK? They sell it all their other parks! Isn't this a big inconsistency? I mean after a long day of walking around, I just want to have a drink to relax. Does anyone else think its stupid you can't drink in MK?

For true DL and WDW old timers, the serving of alcohol at the other parks is the inconsistancy. I see nothing wrong with having one "dry" park out of all the other locations where it is available. MK is most closely associated with the little ones, and even as a "big" one, I think it is nice to have a non-drinking haven.

Walt did not want alcohol served in Magic Kingdom. He felt that it would encourage misbehavior, littering or inattentive parenting and he wanted MK to be a cut above other amusement parks. While he wasn't around to direct the rules at other parks, he was around to declare this during its construction. Out of respect, the powers that be have honored his request.

It is a short monorail ride or walk to the various lounges at the Poly, Contemporary or Grand Flo, though! I would recommend the Tambu Lounge at the Poly for a relaxing drink after a long day.

i think that a CM told my dad(who was looking for beer) that it had something to do with the image they want to project to the kids & the all around atmosphere of the MK
fantasy,,,not reality

Me personally, I like that they don't serve alcohol in MK. I think it would distroy the whole feel of the park, it's one of fun and laughter - which sometimes alcohol is not associated with.

You know having a few drinks and riding the rides in Fantasyland would be more fun. :lmao:

Anyways there isn't anything stopping you from pregaming in the hotel room. Been there done that.:goodvibes

I think it's nice to have one "dry" park. There are plenty of places to grab a drink at WDW. and I'll bet it doesn't take long to just hop on the monorail to a resort bar.

and most importantly, if this was Walt's wish, than it should be granted. :wizard:

After seeing some obnoxious people at Epcot during Food & Wine, I think it's a good idea.

I agree with this...and I've seen them when it isn't Food & Wine and I've seen them having "misteps" coming out of the bar at the Port Orleans by the piano player.

The Magic Kingdom is for kids and should remain the way Walt wanted it.

As much as it kills me to dine at Crystal Palace without a glass of wine, it doesn't bother me too much overall. Of course if the *did* start serving alcohol at MK, I would be first in line, but it doesn't rent space in my head or anything.

What sells?
DisneyLand park Paris, essentially the euro-replica of The Magic Kingdom, serves alcohol in at least eight of it's eateries and restaurants.

Walts-located in the middle of Main Street USA, wine list?-Yes.
Plaza Gardens Restaurant,wine list?-Yes.

Frontierland;
Lucky Nugget,wine list?-Yes.
Silver Spur Steakhouse,wine list?-Yes.

Discovery Island;DRY-Whew, no irresponsible staggering parents here.:rotfl:

Adventureland;
Agrabah Cafe,wine list?-Yes.
Blue Lagoon,wine list?-Yes.

Fantasyland;
Arbegre de Cendrillon?-Yes.

Point? Same company right? C'mon, So the powers that be decided not to honor Walts request in this case?
I love Disney with the family, always have and always will, let's not get too sure of ourselves and our high horse. No wonder when some Europeans come here to visit they are aggravated, false advertising...lol...

Well, ya know, "Do in Rome" and all that. France is a little different. Kids drink wine there. They probably let chicks walk around topless, too.

(Just kidding, kind of.)

We LOVE the fact that there is no alcohol in MK. DH can not drink and the MK is one of the few places on earth, entertainment wise, that we can go and not be around alcohol.

Its so easy to get to other places that sell drinks (poly, contem., etc) that I cant imagine that it is a major inconvenience for too many travelers. :confused3

I have no problem with a dry MK. I would, however, have a problem with those who "need" to have a drink in the MK. Those who "want" to drink while at WDW have the remainder of the entire property to choose from.

I think some things are simply traditional. Disney has some more "traditions" in their corporate culture than many other companies. One is that there is no alcohol publically available in the MK in Florida or California. The other parks were conceived after Walt's death, Walt made the original decision for Florida and California.

It really doesn't impact the bottom line, makes the park cleaner, probably cuts down on insurance costs for them, and maintains a tradition that has 50 years behind it.

(The private club in DL serves liquor as well - another Walt decision).

No. There are plenty of places where kids have the *opportunity* to see Mom and Dad hoist a cold one (or two or three). It doesn't bother me at all that the MK is dry.

We're an all adult group who enjoys putting a few drinks back with our meals. However, I too am glad that MK does not allow it. For those who feel that the lack of alcohol diminishes their enjoyment of the park, well, there's plenty of other places to go. The mental picture of the parents sitting on the curbs of Main Street waiting for the parade with their buckets of beer sends chills up my spine!

If you cant go to MK and enjoy yourself without alcohol, something is terribly wrong in my opinion. My DH and I drink often, with dinner, to socialize, and to relax from a stressful day, but the thought never crossed my mind while we were there.
