Alcohol in food?

Hi all,

Possibly an odd question but it's something that's bugging me. Can someone under 21 order an item of food off a menu that's been cooked with alcohol? Examples would be beer battered cod or the chocolate whiskey cake at Le Cellier (described as "chocolate cake brushed with whiskey, layered with chocolate mousse, finished with orange marmalade".) I seriously doubt I'd want to order any but I want to make sure anyway. I don't think I would be allowed to order them but maybe someone knows better?

yes you can, when alcohol is cooked it loses a high percentage of the actual alcohol content, as far as I know there are no foodstuffs with an age limit on them

I have never known anyone get drunk from eating the 'beer battered cod' , unless you eat 5 or 6 perhaps, maybe that could take you over the limit ;)

I am sure Carol is right, you will be fine.

Yes, I ordered alcohol meals (LOL) when I was 19.

It annoyed me that I couldn't drink over there, having been drinking in the UK for years, but when in Rome you must do as Rome does... I did miss having a glass of wine with my evening meal, though!

Absolutely correct, there won't be much alcohol in any of the food once its been cooked. You won't get carded for cake either ;)

I did once feel slightly tipsy having eaten about 10 of those little chocolates shaped like whiskey bottles and I think they had whiskey in them :lmao:

But in reality by the time you eat enough to register any alcohol you'd have barfed the lot anyway :rotfl2:
