Anyone with experience flying on Alaskan Airline? good or bad? Looking to buy 6 tickets from Boston to Hawaii in August. We have flown Hawaiian Air in the past but it is $600 more pp (non stop) vs. Alaskan Air with one stop.

Thanks

Not sure what information you're looking for but we've flown them several times from Calgary to Los Angeles. They don't fly direct from here; always with a stop in Seattle. It's just a short hop though so no biggie. They are often the least expensive option, or at least they were pre-Covid. Lots of the US carriers haven't resumed their service back to Canada yet.

Since we live in Seattle we fly them all of the time. They are frequently switch places with Delta has the highest rated US airline. Granted you are going to be stuck on a small 737 for two 6 hour flights which can be problematic for some. At least Hawaiian flies wide bodied A330s. Are you using the Alaskan credit companion fare to book your tickets?

Didn't know about Companion fare and just looked it up, sounds like a good deal. I may have to look into it. Thanks

We've flown on Alaskan Airlines several times. I like them. Except for the time when we were put on a Delta plane. Don't like them.

Used to live in WA and that was the airline we always used. It was very good.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them if they were flying to where I wanted to go.

I have to do a lot of travel to Seattle, so I fly Alaska almost exclusively. They’re a great airline.

When we lived in WA this is who we flew for almost all of our flights. No issues from us. We've flown on their tiny planes as well as their larger ones. When flying on their partner Horizon you used to get free alcohol.... I'd fly Alaskan without a second thought.

Only way to get in/out of Pullman. That drive from Vantage to Pullman is long, boring, and in the winter flat out dangerous.

I'm in Portland and a MVP Gold 100k. I think they are pretty good. Their first class meals are much better than industry standard right now. I would book it.

Yes! We lived in Pullman so it was either fly out of the tiny airport or drive to Spokane. In the winter I'd much rather fly out of Pullman. Our family grew accustomed to flying in the tiny 18-30 seater airplanes that when we'd fly the "big" planes to Seattle that it was a treat. HATED having to drive to Seattle. That 5+ hour drive was horrible.

I've never flown them, but my daughter lives in Tacoma and uses them all the time to visit us in Florida. She think's they're great.

They need to make it easier on people from the Lower Mainland. They should start up Bellingham - SNA flights.

I remember once I found OAK-SNA tickets for $52 (including all fees and taxes) round trip on Alaska. It was almost 20 years ago when they still flew that route. But it was really strange because I played around with the times, and the return time/date didn't seem to matter as much as the departure time, which had to be the early morning flight before 7 AM. Otherwise the price bumped up to more than $150 round trip. And what I remember about that is that I sat near the front and they had some bulkhead seats that faced backwards. However, I've flown them to Seattle and Portland (once out of Sacramento), and I say it was always fine.

With any luck, maybe it'll be on one of these:

There are some bizarre liveries though.....

And BTW - I've only one post that calls it by it's actual name, which is "Alaska Airlines".

Alaska Airlines is often one of the top rated airlines and have been for awhile. It's been a long time since I've used them because the don't generally have much service where I am, but based on some of their rankings over the years, I wouldn't hesitate.

pulled the trigger last night and bought our tickets. Thank you all!

On a side note, I don't usually play the credit card points game, I have 2 that I use on a regular basis with cash back, Citi Costco and BofA cash back. Well since I know a year ago that we are going to Hawaii, I fell for the Hawaiian Airline credit card scheme. I got one for myself and one each for my 2 adult kids (with their approval). I fulfilled all requirements and each of us got about 80,000 points. However when I try to use points and cash the cost comes up to be more than cash alone. I tried multiple configurations for weeks and it just makes no sense and overly frustrating (different laptops, different locations, incognito mode and all). Then I had my boyfriend tried with his computer and his login and his cost was lower, still $400 higher than Alaska. I keep reading about people having these "free" vacation from their points, guess I'm just not cut out for the credit card churning game. lol

ps. I used Costco Alaska Giftcards and that bought the cost down another 10%!!
