Alaska

When we went on HAL there were about 7 kids. I was in my 30's and we were pretty much the youngest on the ship except for two other groups.

We cruised during summer. I think the Cruise Director said there were 250 kids on board. Far fewer than Disney for sure.

I wasn't planning to return to Alaska in 2009, but Princess had such great prices early this year that I booked the Golden Princess roundtrip from Seattle for this weekend! :yay:

:cool1::thumbsup2 :yay: :banana: :banana: :banana:

Very cool! I'm very jealous! The rates have been KILLING me. And I have no vacation left to take!

Have a fabulous trip!!! Wishing you blue skies & flat seas! Care to share what you'll be doing off the ship?

We took our high school senior and his cousin on the Princess Saphire in Sept 2004. There weren't too many children on the cruise, but it was after Labor Day so that might have been why. We loved our cruise and would like to go back someday and spend a week on land, then do a week cruise.

We did the roundtrip out of Seatle, so we went up a few days early, we rented a car and took the Ferry around the San Juan Islands and went to Victoria before the cruise.

We really enjoyed the fishing excursion in Ketchikan (http://www.exclusivefishing.com/) we had a wonderful guide, all gear was provided and they cooked your catch for lunch. DH & DS were slightly upset I caught more then they did and I'm not really into fishing, but the area was so beautiful.

In Juno I went out to a glacier and whale watching instead of fishing with the guys. I managed to get a few good pics too.

We took the White Pass Railroad tour in Skagway. Those old goldminers had it rough going through that area.

I have a question. Do they decorate their doors on other cruise lines like they do on Disney?

Finally, I have to say that the Norwegian Epic is going to be the ugliest thing on the ocean, if not the earth. Totally off topic, but it is hideous. Just thought I would throw that out there.

I totally agree!! That ship looks so top-heavy I would be afraid it would roll over. One uuugly ship!!!

I have seen things on people's doors on other cruise lines, but not like on the Disney Wonder.

We didn't see much in the way of door decorations on the Pearl and very few people used lanyards for their key cards.

Thanks, Chris! How can you have no vacation time left? It's only May!

This is supposed to be a cheap trip, so the only splurge excursion is the 9-hour rail/bus trip to Carcross from Skagway. Unfortunately, some of the tracks washed out last week, just as they did in 2007 when I booked the same excursion! So once again we'll do the slightly shorter rail/bus trip to the Yukon, with the train to Fraser, BC and mini-bus to Carcross and back to Skagway. We'll walk around Ketchikan, and take the shuttle bus to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. We're also going to Butchart Gardens in Victoria through the ship.

We're flying to Seattle tomorrow for 3 days, so guess I should get off the PC and start to pack! :woohoo:

I've never seen door decorations, not even on Disney, but we cruised Disney 5 years ago, I think door decorations came into fashion since then.

Having too much fun! And my company thinks it's a good idea that our vacation program be on the fiscal year rather than a calendar year - so my vacation year started on October 1st.

Sounds like you will have a great trip! I assume you are with Chilcoot Charters and know you'll have a great tour with them. The shuttle bus in Juneau sounds like a much better idea than renting a car from rent-a-wreck.

We already had the decorations, so we took ours with us. There were some other doors that had minor decorations. But, nothing like DCL. I didn't see any fish extenders either - or fish! Also, the doors on the Pearl were not really designed for decoration. The smaller stuff stuck around the edges fine, though.

Thank you for the pic - I can see why they wouldn't be decorated. My DDs are excited about decorating on the Magic next year, so I was curious if I should be looking for graphics that were not Disney. Sounds like I don't.

Although I apparently didn't get a picture of the door decorated, the Disney graphics looked great and did make finding our door a little easier. ;)

We've made a lot of magnets for our 2010 Disney cruise already. We should be able to spot our door without a problem. LOL. There are some talented people over on the disign board.

Maybe I'll see about getting some with just names for the 2011. Hopefully we'll book & get to go.

Does anyone know when the information for the summer 2011 cruises should be out? For the other cruise lines? I believe Disney does there in the winter - like Octoberish. Do others as well?

Late October we will know for booking in November.

Thank you Andrew. I didn't realize that the information for the various cruise lines tended to come out at the same time. It'll be fun to see the itineraries and make a decision. :)
