Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

If its truly a limited edition of 1150, you can forget it...

:lmao:I missed that part of the post....than it is as i thought it might be....for the first cruisers only. But thats ok I have Art work from DDW private collection that he sold us personally and signed on the back by him....he did it in front of us.

But the lithographs are fun to have. the ones I have from him from the other first time itinerary are sitting in my closet...they are not even framed. Maybe one day I will do that. :goodvibes

I've never been on a Disney Cruise, or any other cruise. I love Disney, and I've always wanted to go to Alaska. July 19 is the date that my husband and I sail on the Disney Wonder. We're very excited! (one of us is a little nervous, but I'm not saying who and the recent reports of large and rolling seas aren't making this person feel any better.)

Hi And Welcome Aboard The Board!

My DH and I are very excited about our upcoming cruise as well. It will be the second sailing for us and I am sure it is going to be an amazing adventure.

As for the rolling seas, I wouldn't spend too much time being concerned about that. The ship has what they call "wings" which are stabilizers that can be put out to help keep here smoother and level. Also, by the time we are aboard her it will be summer and hopefully weather conditions will be gentler than they are during the transition from spring to summer.

All in all, I expect the folks on the later sailings to have a significantly different experience, particularly where the weather and water are concerned that the folks who are sailing early in May are having. After all, in Skagway they just cleared the railroad tracks for the first time this year at the very end of April so they are still sitting beneath winter there.

If you folks have issues with delicate tummies a quick check around the boards will find oodles of suggestions for remedies that help. Everything from ginger and Seabands to prescription solutions are recommended.

Also, by finding the meet thread for our cruise you have made it much easier to get an idea of not only what to do and where to do it but also will be able to get advice (if you want and need it :-) on everything from excursions to packing lists and everything in between.

It sure is going to be a great experience for us all and I for one can hardly wait.

Congrats on booking your first Disney Cruise and on finding DISboards and your meet thread. Not too shabby for your first efforts here :-)

Oh, and do a search on "FE" which stands for Fish Extender. We are doing a Fish Extender gift exchange amongst some of the folks on our cruise and if you and your DH (Disney Husband :-) are interested in playing along there is still time to join the fun.

Once again, welcome! I will look forward to seeing you post more frequently as we draw ever closer to our departure and shall also look forward to meeting you when we get aboard "our" ship.

Take care, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Hi All,

The Disney store is called Company D and it is where they sell items at a discount to cast members. Most of the time you have to either be a cast member or a member of their immediate family to shop there. Sometimes they allow CM's to bring guests (like around the Holidays for instance).

They sell everything from food staples like bread, veggies & fruits and the like to commercial kitchen sized overstocks (like massive containers of mayo for instance); items discontinued from sale within the park (like seasonal or holiday merchandise) and sometimes things that have been retired from service within the park itself.

For instance, they are doing a huge remodel at the entrance to California Adventure (DCA) and have removed the giant letters that used to be in the preshow area which spelled out "California". Well, those giant letters were put up for sale at Company D. I am not sure what one does with a 12 foot tall letter "C", or for that matter why someone would want it. Nor am I aware of what they were priced at but nevertheless they were put up for sale and I am betting that right now, even as I type, there are up to 10 families who are gazing adoringly at their very own piece of the Magic in the form of a giant letter which once graced the Happiest Place on Earth and now graces their living room.

As for the FE, since I roped them in it really is only fair that I help them out, right? Fortunately, my only task where they are concerned is the construction of their FE itself and not the creation or providing of the items that go into them. I have my hands full where that is concerned getting ready for my participation.

Today I did a photo shoot at our office for some other agents who needed headshots for their business cards/websites/for sale signs. That was interesting. I think that overall I got some ok shots but I sure do have a whole lot to learn. I may volunteer to do a couple more sessions like this one today in order to get more practice. I didn't charge for the pictures and won't be charging for the retouching either. Instead the folks have been asked to make a donation to our companies in-house charity. I sure hope that when it is all said and done everyone feels that they got their money's worth.

Well, I am going to go read the next installment on the Alaska blog to see what their first "port" Tracy Arm was like.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Welcome!!! :flower3:

I wouldn't worry about the weather so much. We really can't compare May to July.

I agree....they are heading out in the Winter....We of course the summer. Are you worried about Sea sickness...is that what is bothering you about the rolling waves?

The first cruise is so much fun...we have been on many cruises but DCL is our favorite. Page #1 of this thread has a whole bunch of info that may help you plan your cruise and stay.

So what excursions have you picked? What questions can we all help answer for you? Are you familiar with the FE or making magnets for your cabin door? Do you have any children that will be joining you or just you and your DH?

Welcome aboard! glad you found us:cool1:

So this is from the twitter link on page one....does this look cold or what...BRRRRRRRRRRRR ...this is Skagway heading to the Railway...the little pictures above the big are from another part of the cruise.

Definitely check out Laura's blog, she posted some pictures of the Alaska items being sold. Tracy Arm looks beautiful. I am excited to see Minnie in her outfit and the grilled lunch looks fantastic!!

Sure love all the blogs....its nice to hear what is going on. I am still glad we are going in the summer...but would have been really nice to do both Repo cruises from La to Alaska...nice long cruise. And if we didn't have children...that is what we would have done....but with school and all.

Anyone else out there buying stuff or thinking about packing in anticipation for the cruise? I got a new hooded polartec jacket from LLBean for the cruise and will bring that in addition to my waterproof rain jacket. I also ordered a few different pairs of gore-tex and waterproof shoes to try out and see if one of them will work for the trip.

Hello Everyone and Happy Saturday!

I have been following the posts and blogs from people on the cruise and I am beyond excited now for our trip to come!

I feel like I finally have most things under control. This past week or so I ordered my new Disney Rewards card, paid for our Harv and Marv excursion, and got my Entertainment books in the mail (and have already sticky noted the heck out of it):goodvibes. I think I'm set with clothing, though DS1 might need a new suit. Bought a new raincoat and good walking shoes back in the fall.

:thumbsup2The mail just came in the middle of typing this post. Got my Disney Rewards card and my refund from the state taxes!

I'm thinking of setting up a blog for when we cruise, though I have no blogging experience whatsoever! I've really enjoyed reading the blogs from the current cruisers and thought it would be a great way to share the trip with others. Does anyone else blog their vacations? I'm still on the fence.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

So, they're doing the All Aboard: Let the Magic Begin show on the first night, but NOT the Remember The Magic: A Final Farewell on the last night? :confused3

IDK

I am a little annoyed that they kept the semi-formal night on the day we are in Ketchican. Any one who has early seating will not be in the dining room if they are doing an excursions. I hope it is not our night in Animator's Palate, I really enjoy the changing colors and the show.

Hopefully as time goes on, Disney will see what works and what doesn't work and make a few changes.

Question:

We booked a private halibut fishing excursion in Ketchican. The boat captain said the info he has says the Wonder leaves at 8pm. Our info says 7:30. Has anyone read or heard of a change?

Our final excursions:

Skagway - Klondike Gold Dredge and White Pass Railway 12pm-5pm
Juneau - Juneau City & Mendanhall Glacier Tour 12:15pm -3:45pm
Ketchican - Private Halibut Fishing tour
July 25th- Palo Brunch 11:30am
