Alaska in May

So excited to be going in May 2019! We'll use the money we saved by going in the early season to do some awesome excursions (I'm thinking the helicopter ride to a glacier to do some dogsledding would be amazing!). We looked at other lines, but DCL really is the best fit for us right now, so taking advantage of the early season prices was key for us.

We have May 20 on hold as well! Need to confer with my hubby about the price, he may want to drop down a category (or two) as well. Really stunned how much it has gone up in only a year! But still cheaper than June/July/August by a lot.

We just booked May 27 2019 yesterday! So Excited!!!

So did we! I've never really had a desire to go to Alaska again. I've done a land trip before. But, now that I've decided and booked it, I'm pretty excited. Unfortunately, it is still 444 days away though.

Prices did go up quite a bit. My 7A is a smidge higher with the OBB than the standard opening day rate was last year. Our inside cabin, though, didn't go up by too much.

I'm looking at booking the 2019 May 27 Alaska cruise. The Alaska May cruises seem to be least expensive and we will be out of school in time for this one. Can anybody tell me about their experiences with weather and temperatures on May Alaska cruises? I'm just afraid we might be freezing to death.

We were the first sailing out of Vancouver for the 2012 season -- we sailed May 5th. We absolutely loved it. That was also the winter that we had zero snow and high temps, so seeing all the snow and ice was just wonderful. It was brisk at times and we did take hats and scarves and gloves, but it was so amazing and beautiful. You can catch some amazing calving of the glaciers and we saw moms and babies everywhere (grizzly, brown bear, moose). I loved it and would do it again that time of year. We did, however, have one excursion in Seward cancelled because the lake was still frozen.

The year that I went in May, it was 70s the whole week and I kept having to wash and re-wear the one t-shirt that I packed. Swimming in the pool while going through Glacier Bay was a pretty memorable experience.

We did May 2016 and had amazing weather. We packed layers. Our Glacier day was kind of cold/rainy and it rained a few hours in Ketchikan, but otherwise great weather. I got sunburnt which I did not expect!

I was in t-shirt and shorts most days, except for the Tracy Arm day when I was fully rugged up when on deck. Occasionally, I'd have a jumper on as well. It was FAR warmer than I was expecting.

We booked our 1st Alaskan Cruise the other day for May 2019. Can't wait!

A lot of people say that. Your going to southern Alaska in the summer or late spring. It’s not going to be as cold as you expect it to be. Bring layers just in case thou.

A member of the FB group for my April Fantasy sailing grew up in Juneau. According to him, mid-May through mid-June is best from a weather perspective since it's the dry season. In my view, sunny and 50 is better than 65 and rainy. Of course there are no weather guarantees, but I'm excited to sail in May.
