Alaska - Dining Plan?

This is our first Disney cruise. I booked Palo on Night 5 at 7:30 or 8pm (we have late dining) which looks like it might be Pirate's night. I am concern about us feeling we missed out if we miss Pirate night dining but am looking forward to Palo. Will we feel like we are missing some of the Disney experience by missing it? My girls are 4 and 7 so they will eat before and then go to the club/lab. Also when do they have the movie? Is it at regular show time? I don't really care if I miss it and my girls are too young but my DH is a big fan of the Pirate movies.

The movie is not a pirate movie. It is one of the ones that will show multiple times througout the cruise. If you are cruising after POTC 4 comes out (may 20th) then that will most likely be the movie for pirate night, but it would also show other times too.

Our family just returned from the 3/27 MR cruise and we felt the Pirate menu was one of the weakest dinners of the whole cruise. Palo can't be missed--make sure you at least try some of the beef ravioli, best I have ever tasted. Fish, steaks, pizza are all great so try and sample as much as you can without exploding!!!! Our waiter in Palo was Alex from Russia, he was great. We are going on the 8/16 Alaska cruise and looking forward to seeing Alex again

:banana::yay::thumbsup2

It is the weakest dinner. On of the servers we have gotten to know says so too. He says most people find it to be the worst menu. You won't miss much not eating it.

This time (we normally do Palo) we are going to go to top deck and get pizza and such and eat an earlier dinner. Since we have no real desire to eat pirate menu anymore.

can't wait to get my package so i can understand how this dining stuff works :rolleyes:

Please feel free to ask questions. There may be questions folks here can answer. :goodvibes

In the past on the Magic the first Pirates film was played on deck on the Arial view after the party (like after 10:00 pm). It is chilly up there in good weather, who knows what they will do in Alaska! :confused3 I will say snuggling under a blanket watching Pirates under the stars in one of my favorite vacation memories. :thumbsup2

For those experienced cruisers, besides formal and semifinal dress, what else should first-time cruisers expect for those dinners? Anything besides a different menu and is the menu for those dinners the same no matter what your restaurant rotation is?

Yes, the menu for those meals is the same no matter what dining room you are in. You will see that the serving crew dress according to the theme which is fun. I believe before the Captain's Gala there is a reception in the atrium with the officers.

We are sailing May 24 so right after POTC 4. :) I know DH is looking forward to seeing it so it is good to hear that they will play it at other times. Thanks. :)

Our booking window for August 16, 2011 Alaska cruise is tonight so this thread was helpful!!!

We are on the cruise that will show POTC 4 at midnight (Yay!), and that is on the Friday, so night 4- Skagway. I plan on being there at midnight!!! I imagine they will show it a 2nd time too - (maybe a 3rd?) for those who don't wait up for it. So excited to be on that cruise!

We're on that cruise too! Did you join our meet-ups thread?

I'm one of the people who called and was told no pirate night at all. But so many other people have been told that there will be a pirate night (but with no fireworks) that my guess is that that is correct.

I sure hope they are showing P4 when we are on the cruise -- I just think that would be a fun way to see that movie! :banana:

Also - kind of along the lines of the Character breakfast, I wonder if Palo will do brunch on Tracey Arm day. At least there would still be good views!

Yes, we booked PALO brunch for Tracy Arm day. Also, were told yes to Pirate night, but as stated, no fireworks. And, to wrap up, we booked a late PALO dinner for Pirate (late all-aboard from Ketchikan) night:laughing:
