Just wanted to start a thread for anyone going on the 8/1 Alaska sailing. This is our first time cruising and we're interested in any tips from veteran DCL Alaskan cruisers. We're a little anxious about traveling all the way to Vancouver and having an unexpected positive COVID test. It sounds like you have to enter a "plan" for what you'll do if you have a positive test. Any ideas as to what the details of an acceptable plan are (a specific hotel to stay) in the event this occurs? Thanks.

My understanding is that Canada is requiring the cruise lines to have hotel arrangements in place if a passenger tested positive at the port or on the ship. I’m not saying the cruiselines pay for the hotel, just they have to have agreements planned out. Don’t know how this will work since I haven’t seen any episodes reported yet.

My family has been on numerous Alaskan cruises, but this will only be our second on DCL. I'm hoping to see if someone hosts a fish extender group. We loved participating last time. Looks like they are being allowed again. There are many excursions being offered. The best thing to do is book and then decide if you really want to go on that particular one. You can always cancel. Check the policy. Excursion booking just started. Same goes for dining at Palo. Some days are already completely booked out. Don't fret about not getting a particular reservation. You can always check periodically as guests frequently change plans right before the cancellation deadline. So know when that is for the day you want and check online or call to see if there is an opening.

Booked for this cruise to celebrate my fifth anniversary with my girlfriend (who I met on DISboards). It'll be our third cruise and first to Alaska. We're excited to be somewhere that isn't absurdly hot during the summer, but also nervous about the necessary COVID testing to get on the cruise (and cross the border back into the US on the back end).

I would check but I believe Canada just ended the requirement to have a Covid plan for those who are vaccinated. Just went to Vancouver island and did not have to get tests for the boarder nor have a plan in place. However we were going over a land boarder.

We flew in and did not have to have a plan. Fill out ArriveCan within 72 hours of your arrival, then after you arrive fill it out again for the cruise (the cruise is slightly different because you fill it in before you embark, even though you are not actually arriving back into Canada until the end of the cruise.

Lots of good information on Disney's Canada Know Before You Go. These requirements are in addition to the DCL requirements.
