Alaska and Shutters

Hello .. Fortunate enough to do the 5 night Alaskan cruise next August .. yay! Wondering about Shutters and the pictures. We did it on a three night Disney Dream Cruise at Nassau and CC. Is Shutters worth an Alaskan cruise? Are there pictures taken outside on deck with scenery? I'm trying to justify .. loved the Shutters pictures from the Dream, is it worth it for Alaska cruise? (in my head I see pictures in jeans for Alaska vs fun summer outfits for Caribbean Thank you!!!

There were lots of character photo ops with the characters in Alaska outfits, lots of inside and outside photos. In the end we didn't pre buy the package and I have no regrets b/c the quality just did not seem to be up to par, I took better photos with my mid priced camera, many of the Shutters photos were blurry or someone wasn't looking at the camera, etc.

Remember that you can give CMs your phone or camera to have them photograph you with the characters. We did that on the Magic over this past New Year's and it worked like a charm. I did check out our Shutters photos and some of them weren't as good as the CM-taken ones on my phone (go figure), so not buying the package was the way to go in our case.

Have fun in Alaska! We'll cruise there next summer for the first time, too. So excited!

We opted to do one of the onboard photo books instead of buying all the photos. During our two prior cruises we character hopped and on our last one we decided to avoid buying the CD to make sure that we stayed focus on enjoy ourselves instead of hunting down each character for yet another photo of them. We had just enough photos with the characters and "studios" to fill the book, so it worked out really well for us.

From our personal experiences, the photographers on board do a really good job of capturing the photos. But with the lines they are rushed to get people moving and may not give everyone the same level of attention.

For the Alaskan cruise there will be photographers roaming the top decks with and without characters, so if you are into photo ops be sure to have your camera with you all the time. (Plus you'll want to have it for the random wild life sightings).

We also just relied on the pics taken with our own phone by the photographers. We didn't really like the ones in shutters. The only ones that didn't come out well were the Anna and Elsa pics. The lighting was horrific on our camera. I don't know if it's somewhat intentional, but it's been that way on two sailings now...

• I was disappointed to see no photographers for the sail away party... other cruise lines have photographers for the Vancouver departure.
• They are outside for the Tracy Arm segment. Very popular as the ship gets closer to the glacier.
• there is a bonus photo op at cruise terminal waiting area for embarkation.

I wasn't going to bother with any purchases from shutters last year on our Alaska trip but there were a couple of character ops we had happened upon and didn't have our camera, Minnie in her fancy outfit and Donald up on deck in his Alaska gear so just purchased a couple of pics I framed myself-the rest were fine from our own camera, and when I say the rest I mean the 1000+ pics I snapped!!! Have a fab trip, it's awe inspiring!
