We are new to ABD, we haven't done a trip. We are thinking of doing Alaska 2022, adults only since it's only my husband & I for this trip. I was wondering if anyone has done this trip & your thoughts on it? My thought was that cruising isn't going to be on my itinerary for awhile and Alaska isn't a territory I would navigate on my own, but it's on my bucket list, so ABD would be a great way to visit.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

My husband and I did Alaska solo a few years ago. I have not done ABD - what I will say is that one of our top highlights of that trip was staying in a cabin in the back of Denali. Absolutely incredible - and ABD does not do that.

I personally think you can do Alaska on your own... it depends on what your interests are, though. To me, the ABD itinerary is pretty bland, but I’m more of a wildlife/hiking/nature person. I think you could easily replicate the ABD itinerary at a fraction of the cost. We have been to Alaska twice and our favorite experiences were based in the national parks—an all-day cruise in Kenai Fjords, touring the copper mine building and hiking on a glacier at Wrangell St Elias, and viewing bears up close at Katmai and Lake Clark. Alaska is expensive no matter what, but I think you can get more bang for your buck by planning on your own. Especially if it’s just you and your husband!
