Hello, I'm new to Disney Cruise Line so please bear with me.

I was hoping to take a Disney cruise to Alaska in 2019 in either July or the first half of August. Wanted two connecting room with verandas... - but it seems almost all the rooms with balconies are already sold out on the right hand side of the ship...for that matter the only ones on the left hand side are below the smoking area and it's easy to find complaints about the smoke making it in the room....

Is it really possible that the summer 2019 cruises have already sold out? Amazing if so given the prices!

Any help/coaching appreciated!

They're not sold out. DCL only shows some of its available cabins online, typically no more than 8 per section. And for some reason they always display the port-side ones first, even though the starboard ones are available. Just call DCL to book the exact staterooms you want. More likely than not, they or ones very much like them are still available.

Separate from this, be aware that many people put 3-day holds on cruises when the new cruises first become available, because putting a hold on a cabin locks you into the introductory pricing for that cruise, but no money down is required and if you end up deciding against the cruise, it is automatically canceled with no penalty. Since new itineraries were just introduced this week, a lot of holds are on the new cruises that will be dropped within the next few days, and then cabin availability will broaden. (But you'll still only see 8 cabins available at a time on the website.)

Also on Wonder/Magic connecting balcony rooms are very limited so they’re hard to get in general. Much easier to book on Dream/Fantasy.

We just booked the Alaska 8/26/19 sailing yesterday. I'm pretty sure the site only shows some of the rooms that are available. My travel agent was able to get us a room that wasn't showing up as available for me... so i think they see different things, Disney slowly puts the rooms up on the site. we didn't need a connecting room since its only 4 of us- but we got a balcony on the starboard side (which was showing as all booked when i was looking)

I liked the old system where you could actually enter a stateroom number to see if it was available. I haven't seen any way on the new reservation system to do that.

Make sure you join the page for that sailing! Can't wait :)

Wow! Massive thanks to everyone! I had no idea - I had given up before seeing these replies. Briefly looked at other cruise lines and while impressed at how much cheaper they were than DCL had decided that 2019 wasn't the year. Thanks for the renewed hope.

Also, taking away from this that working with a Disney focused travel agent might not be a bad idea for me? There clearly is a lot to know and I don't really have the time to figure it all out. Is there an upside/downside to working with a travel agent for an Alasaka cruise on DCL that I should be aware of? I've found some on the internet that seem to focus on just Disney. Wish I had the time to do the research myself but way too busy with work....

Thanks again everyone for the thoughtful and really helpful replies!

Unless the travel agent you choose has personally been on a DCL Alaska cruise, I don't know how much they can really help you with specific advice. One bit of advice that I personally can give is that good deals on U.S. to Vancouver airfare can be found via the Canadian airline WestJet.

Here's a comprehensive info site about cruising DCL to Alaska from someone who posts on Disboards:
