Alaska 06/11/12 Anyone Sailing ?

That sounds like a fabulous deal!! I am paying more than that for airfare for two from Indianapolis. I am letting DCL take care of mine. We are flying in the day of sailing and leaving the day we get back to port. I wish we could stay a few days in Seattle, but between arranging for my grandson to fly into Indy from Tampa and my work schedule, I just can't be gone any extra days. Kudos to you on finding such a great deal on airfare!!!!

I am glad someone started a thread for June 11th! My family will be traveling as well on our FIRST cruise ever! We are very excited to be celebrating my stepdad's retirement. DH, me, DD7, and my mom and stepdad. We are thrilled to be making DCL our first cruising experience - we hope it will be the start of more cruises. I am a little overwhelmed by all the planning, but I planned a 3 family WDW vacation with dining reservations two years ago, so I think I can handle this. See you all onboard! :yay:

Welcome to our thread :cool1:

I have read some trip reports, of people who went to Alaska on the Wonder this year. This has been helpful with getting to know different excursions and the Ports we will be cruising too.
I love planning holidays :)

I'm so excited I just had to post.....LOL.

I just booked our flights to Seattle. I know it's really early but I got a fantastic deal and I don't think it could get much lower. Maybe a little, but I've been watching flights for a while and think I did great. Tell me what you all think.

Orlando to Seattle - Roundtrip with 1 stop - $265 total per person.
So for my family of 4 the total came to $1062.00!

We will be flying in the day before the cruise and staying 2 days after. :goodvibes

What's everyone else planning?

Janine

We will be flying to San Francisco, 10 days before the cruise.
I booked return flights from Los Angeles to Seattle for the day before the cruise, $271 p.p. But I still have to find a hotel for that night.
After the cruise we will be staying in the West Coast area for a while.

I understand how hard it is to try to schedule around work.
I'm sure having your grandson with you on the cruise is SO much better for both of you than a few days in Seattle. I hadn't really planned on a few extra days in Seattle for us either but the low fares were only available for those days. My husband and I talked it over and decided for us this is a once in a life time trip and we would just go for it. :thumbsup2
I'm sure Seattle is a great city and we will enjoy our time there but it's the cruise we are really excited about.:woohoo:

Wow ebony I wan't to join your family! You take some amazing vacations!!

Yep, just ordered us all rain jackets. Already have the fleece. Next up, another set of binoculars so the kids don't fight over them. Just booked our flights to Seattle - had enough miles :thumbsup2. Expensive enough trip without plane fare. Now to start working on some hotel nights pre and post cruise...

Welcome bkoehl!

Still need 2 rain jackets. MY DH and DS didn't fit :headache:.
We have fleece. Still need lots of stuff but I don't want to buy to early. I'm afraid sizes will change. I'm sure my boys will grow and I'm hoping DH and I will shrink. :rotfl2:

I'm also still checking out Pre/Post hotels. Can't make up my mind.

Thank you to all who welcomed my family and I! We are excited to be cruising with all of you! We are still researching flights and can't belive how expensive it is to fly from Ohio to Seattle. We are now looking at Delta and Continental due to GrumpyMom's awesome flight prices (thank you :yay:).

I am going to start reading up on all the other people's excursions to get an idea of what we should do.

can someone point me in the direction of trip reports from people who took the Alaskan cruise this past summer? I can't find any that I had been reading before. Thanks! Did they move them?

Hi everyone :)

Its only 34 days until Christmas now :santa: which means ....
our Cruise is getting closer :thumbsup2.
I still have a few pressies to buy for Xmas, but mostly sorted.

As for clothes for the cruise, I dont think we will need lots of new
things. I have already bought us new Jackets, Fleeces, Hats and
gloves. The rest I will buy as and when I see them.

Thanks for the link to the Alaskan trip reports, I havent a clue
really, on what we are going to see/do on this cruise -- only that
the sights are breathtaking and Alaska is a must do.
The tours are all really expensive, hopefully there will be some
that we can arrange ourselves at the Ports.

The port adventures are really expensive but I knew that going in. This vacation is considered our "once in a lifetime" trip. We haven't had a real vacation in a few years and since we are celebrating our oldest son's high school graduation, my DH 40th birthday and our 20th anniversary all in 2012 we figured it was now or never. At least that's all the reasons I drilled into DH's head over and over till he gave in. :lmao:

Airfare prices vary wildly from one city to the next, one day to the next, etc. It sounds like you got a good deal. I paid around the same per/person for us. We're arriving a day early and we have a couple of days at the end before we fly home.

It will be me, DH, and DD(8). We have been on a few cruises (DD's been on two), none of them Disney cruises. However we have been to WDW several times, and we really look forward to the Disney difference in this cruise experience.

plwilliams1049 - We're darn near neighbors! LOL! We've from Avon, Indiana.

I booked all this over the summer before school started, and now I'm trying to retrace steps to figure out what coats/clothes/gloves/hats, etc we'll need. Sounds like many of you are ahead of me on that. We booked a Holiday Inn Express on Aurora Ave in Seattle for the night before the cruise. My sister, who is familiar with the area, said she's tried to get into that same hotel many times before and it's always booked, so I think it paid off for us to make reservations so far in advance.

Interested in hearing other suggestions on what to pack, and/or how to pack it so you don't need a loan to get through baggage check at the airport. :)

I'm interested in any suggestions also!
Since we live in Central Florida it's been years since we have traveled more than an hour or so in the car to get to our Disney vacations. This will be a totally new experience for us.

Hi everyone. My husband and I will be joining you all on this cruise. We just booked a few days ago. We went back and forth on the cruise and dates, but ultimately decided on this week. It is in celebration of our 5 year anniversary. We have not worked out any of the logistics such as flight or pre-cruise hotel but we do plan on staying a few nights in Seattle pre-cruise.

We are big Disney fanatics, we were married in Disney, own DVC have been on a few Disney cruises and aI (occasionally) write a Disney blog lol.

Looking forward to this!:santa:

Welcome pixie08! What a wonderful way to celebrate your anniversary. Looking forward to chatting with you over the next few months, getting ready for our Alaska experience.

midwestpat......So great to have another Hoosier on board!!

Welcome pixie08!!

It's nice to see more people booking.....our cruise still looks pretty empty.:rotfl2:

I don't know if I will have time to get back on the boards again so I wanted to wish eveyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! I hope 2012 brings you all a year filled with happiness, health and of course many Wonderful Disney memories! :goodvibes

Can't wait to talk to you all next year! It will be time for serious planning then. :cool1:
