Alaska 06/11/12 Anyone Sailing ?

What type of camera?

It took months of debating....
First I wanted a really nice DSLR. I figured we needed something really good to capture the beauty of Alaska. However, after looking at them I realized I really didn't want anything that big. I'm not a professional photographer by any means. I didn't even understand half of what the sales people were saying. :rotfl2: In the end I decided that it was just too much camera for me. So I started looking for a nice point and shoot type. Read and watched a lot of reviews and ended up buying the Nikon Coolpix S9100. It's a basic point and shoot but has a really nice zoom on it. I've been playing with it for a day or two and so far I love it. Plus at under $200 my checkbook loved the price. :thumbsup2

Coolpix are good p& s I use a coolpix as a back up to my slr. You won't be disappointed! Congrats!

Booked our Whale Watching excursion yesterday! Wanted to book with Harv and Marv but they don't take children under 13 unless you charter the whole boat so I booked with Weather Permitting. They had good reviews on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic and had the type of cruise I was looking for. This is getting exciting!

I booked an excursion in Juneau the other day with Weather Permitting also!! What time is your excursion? I wonder if we are going together! My DH and I are going at 8:30am with Weather Permitting, I can't wait for the brownies!!

For those of you who've been on a Disney cruise before, I have a question. DD will be 8 on this cruise. For past WDW trips we've done the princess lunch meet-n-greet things, so she has princess outfits.

Is there a reason - are there events on the ship - where many/most/all little girls show up wearing princess apparel?

I'm wondering if I need to plan on packing this stuff too? I'd hate to skip it to save room in luggage, and then have her disappointed (or her daddy motivated to buy another) during the trip.

Okay, I might not be the best one to answer this because I have two boys but I will tell you what I have seen on the DCL cruises we have been on. Lots of little girls wear princess dresses to dinner especially on formal night when the Golden Mickeys show plays. It's actually really cute. I don't know if they have any special princess meet -n-greet things. Again, boys. ;)

I'd say it's really up to you. If you have the room I would pack them.

Yes also to the tea with Alice if you plan to do that and there are tons of princess meet and greets so girls always dress up:cutie:

We're going at 8:30, too!!!! Sounds like we'll see you there! So glad to hear someone else from the Wonder will be with us. Is it just the two of you? There are two of us, me and my grandson (11). That leaves room for two more. My grandson is excited about the brownies, too!!!

Thank you, GrumpyMom and Pixie08 - both replies helpful. Looks like I need to plan on putting this stuff in a bag somewhere.
Thanks again!

Yep, just the two of us! It is actually really cool to already know someone we are going on an excursion with! I am so glad I joined the boards! I wonder who the other two will be? We got a postcard from Captain Greg in the mail today! It said he and the whales have coordinated and they are both free, and are looking forward to our visit! I think it is going to be so much fun!

I was wondering if anyone had experience making reservations at Palo, I am just wondering how fast all of those fill up? Since I am not able to make any reservations until March 28? Just curious if you guys think they are going to be full then, I don't want to get my hopes up that I will get a res if it is unlikely?

You should be ok, especially given the cruise is a week long but you may need to be flexible with times, late or early, spa days during port days vs sea days, etc. They also hold some back to book on board. I wouldn't stress about it much but would book as soon as you are able.

That is so good to know! I was also wondering what our odds were of getting a Palo reservation. Now, I think I'll try, but if I can't get one when our opportunity opens March 28, then I think I'll just wait until we're onboard. THANKS!!!:)

I don't know if any of you were planning on buying Seattle CityPASS for a Pre/Post Cruise stay in Seattle but the price is going up on March 1st.
Bought ours last night.
Just an FYI

That is very nice to know! I wasn't planning on getting ours until a few weeks before so I will jump on it before March 1st now :) I am very excited, it is getting closer and closer, I finally made my packing list and keep adding random things to it.

Just a random question, DH and I are going to WDW for One More Disney Day. Is anyone else planning on going? We are planning on staying at MK the entire 24 hours! I absolutely cannot wait for this! I am going to be doing a TR on that trip, since it is so short just to see how I do, and then decide what to do about the cruise TR!

Hope you all are getting as ecstatic as I am :) Have a wonderful day!

You're welcome! I wasn't planning on buying the CityPASS until later also but when I saw the message on their website I went ahead and got them. Saved me $40.

We are not planning on doing the One More Disney Day. Hope you have a great time and I look forward to reading your TR. Post a link!

I'm am so excited. :yay: Have been since we booked back in Sept. :rotfl: I keep telling myself I'm going to stop thinking, planning, etc before I burn myself out but I can't stop! I guess there are worse addictions in life.

Oh my gosh Ashley that's awesome...24 hours in MK crazy! If your happy with it, you should post it on my blog as a guest writer since I can't go;):rotfl2:

I don't know if you have too much to worry about with palo. Are you sold on brunch or dinner? Brunch could be harder but you should have no problem getting a dinner. It doesn't look like our cruise is sold out.

:dance3: 4 months to go!!!!:dance3:

Applied for our passports yesterday and we are having a family meeting today with my sister to discuss our port adventures and plans!!! :woohoo:

I will definitely keep that in mind! My mind is churning with the possibilities of all the photos and everything that can happen in 24 hours! I really hope it turns out great! Only 2 weeks until that trip! I am counting down the days! It is really strange too because usually I have trouble getting the ADRs that I want so close, but everything is wide open, which is crazy to me. It appears not many people are going to be there. But no worries more MK for us! We are also foregoing a Valentine's Day dinner and splurging at V&A's. We are really excited about that because we have never been!

As far as Palo goes, I didn't really have a preference as to brunch or dinner. I am not familiar with everything that happens on the ship, I don't want to miss out on anything, so I am really not sure. I think I have decided we are just gonna wing it, and if we don't get a res, oh well, we can always go on another cruise...lol, but I think you are right about it not being sold out. I already want to go on the Dream later in the year and do a cruise/WDW vacation since we still have points left. I'm staying very positive about it all because I know no matter what we are going to have an amazing time!:goodvibes
