I am scheduled to rent my VERY 1st rental car in April for our BIG vacation in Disney, NEED the collision & theft (because we DO NOT have this on our own cars).....Has anyone ever rented at Alamo using their "ALL INCLUSIVE INSURANCE"???? ...it claims the collision damage waiver, but DOES NOT have the theft listed. One representative said it IS included, another said I must pay extra for this. I would like to sort this out BEFORE I go and pick the car up. I have noticed thru looking at different rental car places, Allamo seems to have 7 or 8 different insurances (where other agencies put collision/theft together as one) ...this is TERRIBLY CONFUSING. The price they quoted me is fantastic if indeed the theft is included............ They quoted me a Premium 6 seat vehicle for 8 full days with all taxes, surcharges, collision, unlimited mileage, supposably theft????? for $505. Any advice would be helpful..... Thank you!

I would suggest that you not ask Alamo about insurance coverage. You should really talk to your home auto insurance carrier. Most people do not have collision on their home cars. You have PL & PD and something for repairs. I'm almost wondering if you are under 25? and would have rental car problems anyway? If not, and you have a Platinum Charge card, that will make up the difference in the deductible for your home/rental insurance coverage. If the rental car is stolen, or broken in to, that's really not your problem (except for your stuff) Why do you think you need extra insurance on a rental car?????:)

An addendum, the same auto insurance that you have at home should cover a rental car. Call your agent. Use a Platinum Card to rent the car.:)

Can I clarify what I wanted to know? We have rented from enterprise before and we had enough insurance on our policy at that time we only paid like a 12$ fee for something and our regular taxes. They charged us in full up front and didnt put any hold on our card. Anyways we carry COLLISION and Liability on one of our home cars becuase I bought it in may and our state laws or whatever require you carry collision not just liability on new cars.

I have just been hearing mixed things baout alamo and wasnt sure how much extra stuff they will try to throw at us and what proof of insurance etc we need with us to DENY their requests.

I have to look at my new policy for home and see what it says.....

Okay you answered my question as I was typing it LOL! Except I dont have a platinum card! oh well!

That's too funny pooh, but seriously we have rented cars all over the country and have inquired with our AAA agent and we are covered, as we are at home. I have read horror stories on these boards about high pressure sales, and taking a copy of your home auto declarations, but we have never experienced it. No car rental agency has ever even asked us for proof of insurance.:)

OK, if I could spell, check your bank, almost everyone is eligible for a Platinum card, (w/very low interest) these days.:)

You will need to check the company's rules and policies because some of the coverages are not optional. Have Travelocity.com quote you some rental prices and the companies they name will have a button you can click to get their policies. Beyond that, as far as I know and as far as I am concerned you do not need to bring any proof of insurance to decline any and all of the rental company's optional insurance and waivers.

But to keep arguments to a minimum, you should bring a desription of your auto policy showing what coverages you do have, and a copy of the brochure that comes with the credit card describing any car rental insurance benefits the card has (Some non-platinum cardds hvave the coverage also.

Note that (for almost all companies) collision coverage is not insurance. It is simply their promise not to ask you to pay for damage to the rental car if you buy that coverage. It is your choice, not theirs to have them make or not make that promise to you. THerefore any attempt of the rental company to force you to buy that coverage is simply their refusal to honor their rental rate, bait and switch (illegal in most states).
