i just rented from alamo 2/25/04 - 3/6/04 for 10 days, full size car, using sam's club discount/coupon, quicksilver $223 total
these are some of my observations and comments:
the good:
1. best rate i could find
2. onsite
3. QUICKSILVER--it was a life saver!
the bad:
1. arrived on wed at noon and the line was horrible! at least a
1 - 2 hr wait.
i was the only one in the quicksilver line and was taken care
of immediately. i felt bad for everyone that was waiting (well,
not bad enough to stand in their line!)
2. pushy sales lady:
1. "do you want basic or premium insurance?"
2. " we'll fill the gas for you, it's not expensive"
3. "how about an upgrade? you'll never fit in a full size"
3. the worst part: she refused to accept my coupon
i had the reservation confirmation printed out and it was all
legit(i wasn't trying to get away with old codes or anything)
and she refused. had to call a manager who "did me a favor"
her rationale was that the online reservation should not have
accepted my coupon (but it did) and i should have called to give
the coupon code over the phone (which i also did)
Bottom line: convenient because it's onsite, inconventient because of the long lines.
i'll only rent with them again if the rate is great and i can use quicksilver
