Just getting excited about our trip and thinking about our rental car. We rented a standard size car from Alamo and I just curious what kind of cars people are getting to choose from at MCO.

Also, I tried checking in online and tried using the bypassing the line option. I would get to the very end and then I kept getting this "please enter valid departure date" message. Had anyone else had this issue? I tried doing that's 4 times and there are 4 $1 authorizations on my card. Not a big deal, I'm just wondering if I should keep trying.

When we rented a standard for our Memorial Day 2014 trip, there were several simple Altimas, a Chrysler 200, a Toyota Camry and seems like alot of boring, basic Impalas. I saw an employee park a bright red Kia Sportage [small SUV] in there and we grabbed it. I really enjoyed that vehicle, other than no key remote at all - but I survived it. :thumbsup2

From what I understand, Alamo doesn't have a "Standard" aisle at MCO, you pick from the Full Size aisle. We have had everything from "plain old boring Impala's" to Malibu's, Charger's, Mazda 6's Camry's and even an Infiniti G35 once. Our last trip in April of this year we picked out a brand new 2014 Impala (new body style... far from boring).

BTW, we usually use the online checkin the same way as the online checkin for flights. When you have found the absolute best price before your departure date, then we checkin online the evening before or the actual morning of our flight. No sense checking in a month before your arrival date as you may find lower rates and cancel and rebook the reservation (and have to do the online checkin again)

You are correct that there is no actual standard aisle. And I agree with you about the 2014 Impalas, that's why I'm pretty sure these must have been 2013 models. That's the only reason I mentioned they were boring and basic.

So , you're saying it's a bit of a racket -- when you pay for a full size vs. a standard, you're posting an illusion. I'm glad I only booked standard. I didn't even know this at the time I did!

I've been continually checking rates. When I initially booked, the best rate I found was $375 for 12 days. I rechecked a few weeks ago and that $375 got lowered to $300. Then, this past weekend, I looked again and found the same car for $217. I was pretty pleased with that, but still checked today and it lowered to $177!! I guess they are counting on people booking and then forgetting about it? So glad I found this board and the encouragement to keep checking!

We always rent standard at MCO since it saves a few bucks. Picked up March 27th at 2 AM and had our choice of Camrys, a new Impala (not the old boring one), Malibus, Altima, one minivan, one Jeep and one Taurus. We chose the Taurus. Loved it! It was loaded out, too. When we got our receipt, the Taurus was listed as a premium. Loved that we got it for the price of a standard. Great to pick your own car at Alamo.

When I was there in early May there were lots of Chrystler 200s and Toyata Priuses. I went with the 200. It had keyless remote & automatic headlights-2 features I like but I didn't care for the car that much.

We are staying at CR this August. We wanted to take ME from the airport, so we rented from Alamo at the AAA car care center at the TTC parking lot.

Do they have choose your own aisles there? I rented a full size, but am wondering now if I should back off to a standard and save a few $$.

TIA

Good question. Renting from car care for the drive down to Port Canaveral.
