We're trying to decide what size vehicle we need for 3 adults (+luggage) for 8 days. I'd like to try a midsize because the rates are better. I think we'd be OK with a G6, but definitely not a Corolla.

Have any of you out there have rented from Alamo recently and what kind of cars you've seen in the midsize section?

What did you rent? And what is your opinion of the car (luggage space, comfort, etc.)?

We rented from Alamo at the end of the August. I reserved a Chevy Equinox. When we got there (four adults), of course, he asked me if I wanted to upgrade to something bigger. I said "No, the Equinox will be fine." He said "Oh we don't have those. I said a Saturn Vue will be fine as well. He said "We don't have those either." He said my choices were a Jeep Liberty or a Rav4. We took the Jeep Liberty and it was okay.

My point is that it doesn't really matter what you reserve. It's a crapshoot until you get there and see what they have available.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has been able to get an Equinox or a Saturn Vue from Alamo in Orlando recently. The clerk made it sound like they didn't offer them at all anymore.

We got a Saturn Aura earlier this month, for 4 of us and all our luggage. Two teen girls, so there was lots of luggage :rotfl: It worked fine for us, very comfortable and cheap on gas. We used it to/from the airport, some driving to the parks and then to off-site restaurants at night. My son is 6'2", and he didn't complain about feeling scrunched, so that's a good thing. It also had an MP3 plug in, so that got a thumbs up as well.

At the time we picked it up (6 a.m.), there were no other cars in the mid-size section. They had to bring up this one for us, and brought up a Toyota Corolla for another couple waiting as well. The cars seemed like they were comparably sized -- I know Corollas are a lot larger now than they were when I had one in the 80's ;) .

If you're only going to be in the car occasionally, and the luggage is going only to/from the airport, I think any mid-size would be fine. For full-day driving, or more frequent luggage toting, it might be worth considering a bigger size car.
