We have always rented from National using Emerald Isle but the prices for Oct are so high I checked Alamo. They are about $100 less for our 8 day trip which ends up as 9 rental days to to flight times. Do you need to pay for your spouse to be an additional driver? Is using the kiosk as easy as using the aisle? Any opinions on their cars or service would be appreciated. Thanks.

We use, and love, Alamo for MCO. Always have been able to find a discount. Have always had good cars. Spouse (any same address adult over 25) is free if you are Insider member...which is free to sign up. But the extra person needs to be added on site. For whatever reason the online software always tries to add the per day fee.

We do it this way: book online for dates and car size we want and modify as better discounts come out...use kiosk at MCO...pick a car in the correct aisle of car class...at the exit booth, ask to add the spouse for free -- showing my Insider Card/number and licenses for both adults.

I recall a post here a few weeks back where Alamo told (in email) that you don't really have to formally add the spouse if you are Insider -- that it's automatic. I'm neurotic about stuff like that, but that's what Alamo has told folks.

HelenParr - what I did recently to avoid this hassle . . . go into on-line check-in for that reservation. [I did this a few weeks before our trip - I knew I couldn't use for the actual reservation because of using an e-coupon] It will ask you about adding a driver to the reservation and I added my spouse. Since I had made the initial reservation using my Alamo Insider Member number, when I added DH it showed a -0- charge. I had not used any codes or coupons that would have allowed an extra driver for free. Hopefully this works for others like it did for me. :thumbsup2

I am an Alamo Insiders member, and we have used them for 5+ years at MCO. We really haven't had any problems. I would recommend doing the "Save Time" option on their website and using the kiosk when you arrive.

As far as additional drivers - In May, I tried to add my husband as an additional driver, and it was charging me addition fees. I talked with Alamo who said he didn't need to be added - it was automatic with the Alamo Insiders membership. If you can now add drivers, I will try that for our upcoming trip. I would rather be safe then sorry! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the updates and input too!

I have used Walmart code in the past -- but it did not work more recently.
