Alamo - Extra Driver

I just booked a GREAT deal with Alamo. Picking up at MCO on 9/22 and returning on 9/30 (mid-size SUV) for $155.75.

The thing is, if I add my husband as an extra driver (he's much better navigating than me) it jumps to $269!!!!

Any tips on how to add an additional driver for no extra fee?

Use the Walmart ID# 430710 or 428448. There's also a coupon code out there #AD1336ADK. I stacked 430710 & AD1336ADK for a mid-size for 14 days for $395.00.

Most car rental companies don't count a spouse as an "extra driver." They will have to show that they are a licensed driver...but you aren't charged for them.

there are lots of codes on the mousesavers website that let you add an additional driver for free. always check those codes!!

Yes, definately check those codes!!! I went last April and we originally rented a full size car. But we seemed to have lots of luggage that was big and I was concerned we would have to have someone sit on a suitecase in the car as the trunk may not be big enough. It was gonna cost us an additional $10 per day at Alamo to add me as an extra driver. But after seeing our luggage the guy at the counter suggested that if there was one available we should rent an SUV. So he checked and there was one available, we were able to get that discounted too, but still pretty expensive regardless. The only nice part was he gave us the extra driver for free and saved us $80-90 on our 8 day stay since we upgraded to the SUV. So bottom line is get ahold of some codes and use them to save the extra $10 a day. I tried to do that at first but because we already booked the car in a package through Disney when we did the trip itself not independantly we couldn't add codes to the package. If we just rented it ourselves we would have been able to save even more. Live and learn.... Now we're DVC and use DME to get to Disney and rent a car for a couple of days to go offsite from the TTC.

Wow, what a bummer. I just called to see what it would be to have my husband as an additional driver and it's $90. That is insane. And to think, I was so happy about my rate being $30 lower than my National rate...oh well.

If you have a Costco membership and book through them, Alamo will not charge for the additional driver.

Is that the same as quick silver? I booked the reservation using my quick silver and they still said I had to pay for an addl driver.

The additional driver fee, is one of the biggest ripoffs in the rental car industry. Especially if you have declined all of the optional insturance.

Luckily, a number of reputable companies (ie Avis/Budget) do not charge extra for spouses or co-workers.
