I am helping my SIL plan their summer trip. She was originally going June27-July5 so I made her reservation for a van for $301.
Today there was a ding for July 4 so she is changing dates. 6/27-7/4 and I ran the rental car price now it is $388. It is more for less days.
So the question is: Can she keep the original reservation and just turn it in early or will there be a penalty? I am going to keep watching it but I dont know if the holiday will go down.

Instead of creating a new reservation, try changing the existing and putting in the new dates. I have found many times that even though the dates have changed, the quote retains the original base rate.

I tried to change the dates and it raised it to the higher amount. I am going to leave it alone. I am hoping she can just turn it early without penalty.:confused3

In March, we returned our Alamo SUV one day early and they honored our original rate, less one day. Technically, it wasn't a full "day" early, just early enough on the same day to not trigger 2 extra hours--or the equivalent of 1day. I think your SIL should be fine.
