I have never rented alamo before. I have always used budget. Well after seeing the changes in hold policies against your credit card I decided to look around. I found an excellent rate with alamo including taxes for eight days at 136.08 May 19, 2006 - May 27, 2006

I am told there is no hold above the cost of rental.
only requires driver to be 25
requires a credit card

is everything as easy to use as it seems. I know that I cannot go straight to the garage but go to the counter first. the perk which I will loose from budget when I cancel.

Is there anything I should know? Do they do credit checks or not?

Hi,
Alamo does not put a hold on your card or do a credit check (even when using a debit card).

If you sign up with Quick Silver Program, you can bypass the counter.
You do have to stop at the Quick Silver booth/kiosk in the garage where the vehicles are located, which takes around 5 mins. or so.

How are people getting these great rates? When I plug in the codes from mousesavers, I still can't get anything that low for September.

Any tips would be highly appreciated.

Same goes for October, but hopefully they'll come down as it gets closer to trip time.

I signed up for an alamo member ship and used the discount in the entertainment book. for my dates may 19-27 I got a rate of 136.08 including taxes and fees.

Just used ALamo last week for 8 days. Great rate- we signed up for large SUV and got a rate of $220 for the whole time. (including tax and fees). Only two problems, their line is the longest to wait in. I would recommenfd looking into the deal that lets you bypass the line. AAlso, they were out of the size car we requested, so they had to upgrade us to a Tahoe XL, which was OK but probably cost us more in gas. The other couple we were with rented there also, they had no problems. Very clean and new cars. You pick your own. Neither one of our cars had more than 10,000 miles on it.

Alamo has a great program where you can check-in online. That's what we did last August and it worked great! We checked in before we left home, I went straight to the lot and picked out the car while my husband got the luggage - it was very quick and easy!!!

It's also nice to get to pick out the car so you can choose color etc...
