No sooner have I posted to a thread about hints of Alamo opening an on-airport rental office at Orlando International than along comes the official press release today!

And, as of today, Alamo will be one of the main featured rental companies at the airport itself, instead of their off-airport depot, about 10 mins drive away (where they have been for 30 years and which will close in January). The Alamo counter will boast 240ft of space and their operation will feature 500 staff and 1,000 car spaces all under cover. I have always rated the Alamo service as the best of the mass-market operators, so, if they can maintain their excellent rates, I would say this puts them at the head of the pack for car rental at MCO.

So now you know!

we used alamo at their off airport site in september and the deal we had booked thru holiday autos was superb

very quick and efficient and will be even better when they're located on the airport

I agree, we used Alamo last year and had no complaints whatsoever, very fast efficient service even with being off site. An on site office should make things even better

Hi Simon,
Could you let me know where you found that press release please? I have been watching out for it and failed to spot it.
Many thanks,
Elle

Hi Simon,
We are due to pick up our car from alamo 16/12/02 can we now pick it up from the airport ? our paperwork says alamo is off site thankyou for any adice you can give us.

Yes you can pick up Alamo cars on airport now, I still could find no press release, even Alamo's web site does not have it ! I then contacted them via e-mail, they have consolidated the counters with National (sister company) on level one of terminals A and B

Will the relocation affect the hire rates - as Alamo have always been more competitive as an off airport rental centre !

I'm just back from our family hols to WDW, and can report that the new Alamo location worked pretty well, with one glitch. The actual Alamo/National rental counter was very efficient in processing our paperwork and we had our completed form in hand in just 10 minutes. You just walk out of the terminal, across the road and into the lower level of the parking garage. Look for the row which coincides with the car you have booked (Intermediate, Full Size), etc, and help yourself, as the keys are all inside! The one snag was the traffic here - there must have been 40 cars all trying to get out through 2 exit gates (where they check your papers), and a queue of cars beyond that. It took a good 15-20 minutes to get clear of the airport this way, but I would say we still saved time on the old off-airport system (and hopefully this is only an early snag in the system). Returning the car was a doddle - just park, hand papers to Alamo agent, get the requisite tick, then off to check-in.

BIG PS here - when you have handed your car over, make your way to the lifts and go DOWN to the Tunnel level, where you walk under the road and take the lift again up to Level 3. It is easy to assume you have to take the first lift UP to the check-in level, but it is totally the opposite.

And I believe all Alamo bookings are now good for the airport rather than the off-airport depot, so everyone should now benefit, irrespective of when you booked!
