Interesting.
Several years ago (25th anniversary and before), they had a character meal at the Disney-MGM Studios at the Soundstage Restaurant (where the Playhouse Disney show is now). It was one of our favorites because of the selection of characters Aladdin, Genie, Meeko, Esmerelda and Clopin. And Radcliffe, Pocahontas and Jafar also appeared. Prior to Pocahontas' release it used to just be an Aladdin breakfast, and even Moroccan Mickey was there.
The Soundstage Restaurant closed November 1998, and after that they added the character meal to Hollywood & Vine. It was the second change in 1998 where they dropped atypical characters for Mickey or Pooh (Artist Point used to have Pocahontas and it was changed to Pooh).
The character breakfasts is one of my "camel straws." I understand that Mickey & Pooh are popular, but my family didn't mind splurging on character meals if we got to eat with different characters. We don't like Pooh, so where on our first trips we ate breakfast with Mickey, Princesses, Pocahontas and Aladdin and Mary Poppins (5 meals), and with the Castle being so hard to reserve, we dropped to Mickey and Mary Poppins in later trips (2 meals). 3 meals saved X 4 people X $15 = "Is this really what Disney wanted to accomplish?" At the same time, Disney was also decreasing the character selections at the meet & greets too, so there appeared to be a larger plan going on.
Anyway, if there are plans to bring back an Aladdin meal, I would be very happy, now could they just reopen the Garden Grill for breakfast!
