Alabama DVCers? -- Got 15?

My husband has always lived here. I'm from North(west) Alabama, been here since we married 22 years ago. We live off the Mitylene exit. We're going on our first Disney cruise in May, couldn't pass up the kids sail free and since one is in college, it worked for us. I hear there's some pretty good incentives to add on during a cruise. I haven't even used our first point and i'm thinking add on. We also have the 290 developer points and can't seem to use those. I'm going to try to rent the DPs or trade into RCI. We'll maybe try to stay a few nights this summer but we stopped going in the summer time back in 03, decided it was just too hot and too crowded!!!

Dear Rotary 2808-
You will love Italy. Our guides were Vinny and Marco. The hotel in Rome is fabulous. We arrived a day early and Disney provided us with a free hop on hop off bus pass. We were on an adult only trip so we got a few extra treats (like a stop at an exclusive bar after dinner one night with drinks provided by Disney). My favorite was the Villa in Tuscany. It has a breathtaking view of a valley below you. The rooms were huge there. Venice was great too. There is lots of downtime on this trip to relax and take in the culture. My DH had never been on a guided trip and I was nervous that he wouldn't like it, but he is already to go again. (maybe France or Ireland) Disney just knows how to do things well!

My parents did it last year for their anniversary and this year they're taking us. I think Marco was one of their guides too. I've got their stories and I've been reading trip reports, it sounds like we've got a lot in store for us. I'm really excited about this trip.

Our first cruise is in a couple weeks and have been told the current add-on incentives onboard incldue the $5 off per point and free cruise currently being offered on land plus 1 week in an RCI 1 BR unit with a waived exchange fee.

Where are you from in Northwest Alabama?? I grew up half in Russellville, and half in Haleyville. For most Montgomery folks, I just have to tell them that I'm from the Shoals area. Most, but not all Montgomerians have heard of the Shoals. :confused3 I went to UNA, so that really was the last stop before Montgomery. I've been here since I got married almost 17 years ago.

Just curious, was Montgomery a HUGE adjustment when you got here? It does grow on you after long periods of time. Mitylene is sooo convenient to Auburn.

I grew up not far from you. Winfield, went K-12 there. Russellville and Haleyville were our big rivals as you probably know. Montgomery wasn't a big adjustment as I lived in Tuscaloosa for two years.

I went to elementary school at Russellville, and then 6-12 at Phillips in Bear Creek. (That explains my sometimes odd and poor grammar.) :)

We did some band stuff with Winfield. I vividly remember having an all county band for Guy Hunt's inauguration in '87 and riding to Montgomery with Winfield band members. It was kind of interesting because I hung out with other seniors from the county instead of my own band mates that day.

I still tease my husband about not coming out to the parade in 17 degree temperatures to see me march. :cool1: Of course the joke is that I didn't meet dh for another 4 years.:lmao:

can you go in May - during the garden/flower festavial - or in late sept/oct (remember you have to Oct 4 to use them) for the food/wine festavial?

Saw fellow DVCer and longtime friend RealMickey today in Montgomery! Hopefully he'll join in on our thread.

Great! Maybe we can clear up that whole thing about us being his apprentice.

I about died when I figured out that we are Mickey'sApprentice, and that there is a Real Mickey in our same city.

I'm pretty sure we don't know this guy, and we are certainly not his apprentice.

Small world!! I'm also from Winfield, but only went K-8. My husband, his family, and my mom's family are all from Hamilton. We live in Gardendale now.

Definitely!! What years were you in school in Winfield? I went K-12 and graduated in 1984. Most of my family lives there. My husband grew up here in Montgomery.

I left Winfield in 1988. I would have been class of '92. My late father's family is from Winfield, but I no longer have any relatives there. I haven't been in many years!

Hello from Meridianville! We're right outside of Huntsville. This is the coolest thread, who knew there were so many of us Bama DVCers! :wave2:

My DH and I will be spending the rest of our developer pts at SSR in May for our 5th anniversary :cloud9: Can't wait!

What a surprise to find out that I actually know photobob!! But why did I think your name was John?? In the past when I had seen you were from Oxford I had wondered just who you might be so thanks for filling in the details. Great looking family, by the way. See you around the pharmacy (or better yet we ought to hit Silver Lakes someday).

Mike Hill, husband of Leigh Anne, father of Rachel (freshman at Gadsden City) and Andrew (kindergarten at Faith Christian School)-- BCV owners since '02 eagerly looking forward to our first BWV stay this May.

John is my first name, I go by my middle name(thanks mom!).

LOL! Someone with your DVC skills and knowledge, is obviously no ones apprentice! It is so nice to see so many DVCers in Alabama on the boards. Was great to see photobob this week. It is always fun to talk to someone who "understands".

Mickey it was great to see you as well, it has been awhile! Here's a link to my trip report from our last trip if you'd like to read.

RealMickey: Thank you so much for the kind compliment. You certainly have great knowledge as well. I admit I stay on the DIS too much, but have experience making do with a small contract.

In other news: my Dsis and BIL have asked us to join them in Gulf Shores for July 4th week. We treated them to BWV a few years ago. This may lead to happy joint vacations for years to come. IF so, then our DVC has sewn very precious seeds.

BUMP!!!

Is anybody else interested in a meet?

Would you be interested if it were somewhere other than Bham?
