Al & Tipper Gore

I agree about the cnn breaking news. I had to forward it to my friend who is separated from her husband, saying, "Aren't you glad you aren't famous?"

CNN just announced Al & Tipper Gore have announced that they are separating, after 40 years together. I know these things are so personal & feel that no one except the 2 people involved can ever know what goes on in a marriage. I just feel so sad when I hear this. :sad1: There are some people that you think will make it, you know? The Gore's always seemed so happy & grounded.

When I hear about couples who were together for so long splitting up, it makes me realize that nothing is forever. Reminds me to appreciate my DH & that we have made it thru 32 years of marriage & 35 years together. And we still like each other & want to be together. :)

I feel the same way! Those of us that are married and still together are very fortunate indeed!:wizard::love:

Of course we need snarky comments, not only directed at the subject of the post, but also at anyone who doesn't share our topic-specific beliefs. Oh, and holier than thou types too, can't forget them.

I'd light a candle for them, but I don't think Al would approve without my having a carbon credit.

They are already doing enough damage to the climate, I don't think one more candle will make a difference.

A Really Inconvenient Truth: Divorce Is Not Green

The data are in. Divorce is bad for the environment. A novel study that links divorce with the environment shows a global trend of soaring divorce rates has created more households with fewer people, has taken up more space and has gobbled up more energy and water. A statistical remedy: Fall back in love. Cohabitation means less urban sprawl and softens the environmental hit.

As previously posted by many, it IS always sad when a marriage ends, but..I most definitely couldn't have lasted 40 years with him (well, maybe not with her either if that was my preference.)

I agree with an earlier post, dont think we have heard the last of this. Im surpised they lasted that long. The man has a chronic problem with "inventing" and making things up. She problably found out more than she cared to know. But now he can coin the phrase, "Marital Cooling":rotfl2:

I thought they seemed perfect for each other. :rolleyes1

Seriously, though, I won't be at all surprised if we find out one or the other cheated. I've heard rumors that she hasn't exactly been sitting around pining for him while he's been jetting around doing the Global Warming thing.

She may have left one too many lights on in the mansion and it was costing him too much in carbon credits! :rotfl2:

I always thought she was a weird duck compared to him. :confused3

Another marriage down the drain, sad,
but unfortunately no surprise when you hear one involving a political figure.

Whats that saying....what happens behind closed doors..................

They were married for a very long time. Even if they have been basically living separate lives for a while now, it's probably going to be quite a transition for them (and for their kids--adult kids are affected by their parents' divorce too). I'm not a fan of either of them, really, but I feel bad for them and hope they will come through okay.

I would have believed Bill & Hillary would devorce but never Al & Tipper. Shows to go ya!

I'm very sorry to hear this. They seemed like a very happy and compatible couple.

The couple who inspierd 'Love Story is breaking up? Say it ain't so!

Very witty but mean spirited. Hopefully no one will ridicule you for your spelling. I guess we all can't be perfect.:sad2:

Why was that mean-spirited? I, too, had heard that they were the couple that "Love Story" was based on.

As for their marriage, you just never know what is going on behind the scenes. I don't ever envy other people's marriages or think "the grass is greener" in someone else's marriage, because you just never know what their lives are like behind closed doors.

I hope both go on to lead happy lives.
