Al Lutz Update Today: Pirate's Lair, Toy Story Mania and More

Al has something critical to say about most everything Disney, which some will say is only because he is trying to hold them to a high standard they have reached in times past. In any case, I did not take Al's comment about SM to mean it is not as good as DL's (it definitely isn't) but only that it is in need of a major refurb like DL's is getting right now.

But what I have read most places is that they are not doing any major changes, just the ride lifts: http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=dl070123xx

I think being critical is ok, I just didn't agree with some of it I suppose? It just irked me some because so much was factual that these opinions seemed a little out of place. . .

I see what you're saying now.:goodvibes I just got concerned that, after what Adi12982 said, maybe others were also confused about what I meant.
I just wanted to make sure that no one thinks that I want the shows to be alike - only the way they are viewed by spectators.:thumbsup2

I wasn't understanding exactly what you meant - so the clarification is appriciated.

I think the best news to come out of this is the new Night Show at DCA. IMO, that is what the park lacked. Also, it is great to see some more actual Disney stuff come in. Don't get me wrong: I love the California theme, love it more than any park in WDW. But it needed a certain Mickey element that was missing. ::MickeyMo

Also, the park would close too early. :rotfl2:

dang, 2008-2009? I dont think ill be there long enough to watch it... I was hoping they knock down Timon lot and expand the park.

In case you missed it, Al's article talked about doing just that - to support a new E-Ticket called "Carland".

Life is a Highway

The other artwork shown on the Annual Report was for the proposed new E Ticket for DCA based on Cars (above). With the Paradise Pier area now slated to become an early 20th century seaside boardwalk themed quite literally to that period, the original proposal for a Cars attraction in the Route 66 area has been shelved. Instead, this grander Cars attraction would push out into the Timon lot adjacent to the current Bug's Land area.

Using a double track version of the ride system found at Epcot's Test Track and Tokyo DisneySea's Journey to the Center of the Earth, this would be the first truly big budget E-Ticket ride for DCA. This attraction would open in late 2010 or early 2011, just in time for the park's 10th anniversary. The current plan is to have all of the other "Placemaking" projects done by this time, so that the 10th anniversary of DCA could effectively rebrand the park as something more than the current Annual Passholder lounge or overflow park at Christmas when Disneyland sells out.

Hey Hydro Guy, You mention this being the first real "Big Budget E-Ticket" ride for DCA. Wouldnt ToT be considered a huge big budget E-Ticket ride??? Anyways, as for the the new updates, they can't start them too soon for me. Love the new idea for the lagoon and my grandsons will LOVE the "Carland" ride!! Was also wondering about if you or anybody has heard any more about Mickey's Philharmonic 3-D?? Thanks!:tinker:

I too was confused by Al's comment about Carland being the first big new E-Ticket for DCA, as ToT seems to have been that. So I do not know what Al was thinking.

I have not seen any more info on Philharmagic coming to DLR since Al's article last Oct. 3 here: www.miceage.com/allutz/al100306a.htm

My family was excited to hear about Mania, but we're SUPER EXCITED about Carland! I showed Ryan, our 7 year old, the pictures of Carland in Al's article, and he's ready to go ride it right NOW! I tried to explain to him that "if" they build this ride, it probably won't be done for another 4 years or so. Well, I guess in the meantime we'll have to make another trip over to WDW (with our kids this time), and take them on Test Track. I just know that they'd love it!:woohoo:

Maybe I should sign up on Miceage and ask Al. Ha Ha!!:tinker:

Oh my that's lots of information. I've never been to Tom Sawyer island because it never held any appeal for me, and DCA has always been lacking something but maybe with all these super cool additions I'll have new places to explore. Unfortunately this will increase crowd size, and I get mad in crowds, but I guess there'll be new attractions to hide in :goodvibes
