What is the pool like at AKV?

I have a studio and a 2br ressie for Oct 14-20 at VWL. I am taking my 2 sisters and their families. It will be the first time for both of them. The kids are 1, 3, 6, 10, 11, and two 13 yo's. We have stayed at BCV and love the pool and the proximity to Epcot.

We are going to MNSSHP and then may park hop another 2 days. So we plan to spend quite a bit of time at the resort. Any recommendations on which resort you might think would be best? Our family loves the VWL, I think the BCV would be good with the wide age ranges, but we have never stayed at AKV.

TIA

If you love pools, BCV is the best on property. :thumbsup2

I've stayed at both, and love both!

If you plan on doing a lot of resort hanging/swimming at the pool, then BCV is definitely the way to go!! :thumbsup2

We have decided that BCV will be our "warm weather resort" & we'll stick to AKV for Christmas or Thanksgiving trips (depending upon availability of course!)

:lmao: daisyduck123 loves swimming :rotfl2:

Just a warning ...The location of the BCV's is addicting. It is hard to stay there or BWV with their proxity to Epcot and then stay at another resort no matter how beautiful without wanting to return. :lovestruc . Did this recently and found myself making dinner ressies there so I could get back. What a location!:wizard: I would split my reservations

I strongly agree with the highlighted statement!:goodvibes We are trying AKV on the front end of our trip for one night only....and that's only because BWV and BCV aren't available. I am looking forward to the night at AKV though. This gives me a reason to check it out.

BCV. Until Kidani opens, I wouldn't spend my points at AKV. I don't think the Jambo rooms are "DVC" enough for us. With all those kids in that age range, SAB will keep them plenty busy.

Would someone explain how the pool"visits" go? We are staying at WLV for three nights and AKL for 4nights but would love to visit some of the other pools as long as the weather is nice. Which ones and how does this work?:confused3

AKV is my favorite WDW resort - but the pool is not very exciting. It's not very big or deep and the slide is so small and slow that it's like a kiddie slide. That said, it's still very pretty and it stays open 24 hours and staffed by lifeguards until 10pm in the summer.

AKL pool is 24 hr is this true? I thought I saw that it closes at 10:00 . That is like SAB closes early but quiet pool is open 24 hr. Ther is curently only one pool at AKL or AKV? we will be there in july and I was hopping the pool would be open late.

We were at AKL over Christmas.
Yes, there is just one pool.
People were not swimming 24 hours there.

We were at AKV in September, and were told that the pool doesn't close. There were a few people swimming with us between 11 -12 PM.

In July at least - The slide closes at 10:00 (much later than other slides) - it's got full lifeguard coverage till 10pm & is open without lifeguards 24 hours. I'm guessing it's to compensate for the fact that AK closes early and lots of gusts will want to swim after the park closes since there's nothing else close. I also think this is why pool hopping is not allowed.

We're night swimmers - so the less-than-exciting nature of the pool is more than made up for by being able to slide after dark!

What do you mean by AKV Jambo not being DVC enough? We're staying there this summer in a 2 bedroom and now you have me worried!

I have to agree. We have a BCV membership by proxy ( my mom who takes my family with her regularly ). And two years ago my wife and I went alone without the kids just at the all-Stars cause we had no points and not a lot of money saved up.

Long story short, we HAD to go eat at Big River Grille just so we could be around "home" for a bit ;)

I couldn't decide either so I'm spliting my stay in Sept. 2 night AKV and 3 nights BCV.

I disagree. AKV are fantastic! However, I think the pool at BCV is far superior. AKV is one of my least favorite pools.
