Hi DVC'ers!

I tried to book a room only res for Sat 9/29 one night at the end of our POFQ FD stay.

There is no availability for that night of any type of (regular/non-DVC) type room.

Is that date too soon to try to rent a DVC SV room? (our flights home are on Sunday so we are actually "homeless" right now for Saturday!) :lmao:

Really had my heart set on experiencing one day & night at this resort before we come home. We weren't going to do any parks or anything that last day, just enjoy the resort. See my plan is to "make" my DH love Disney and then of course, DVC someday. I just know that he would love this resort :thumbsup2

We have an AKV reservation which includes that night, but we've also waitlisted BWV for those dates. You could at least waitlist AKV and book something else in the meantime - SSR?

You can go to the rent trade board and see what happens. I don't think there are many rooms available for DVC use then but you never know til you try.

I don't think OP is a member.

You are right, I'd have to rent for now. I am currently a "DVC wanna-be"!! Someday....:goodvibes

Is it strange that this resort is completely booked on Sept 30th? I guess it must have something to do with the construction, do you agree?

It's not at all strange. AKV will be in the initial opening phase, with only a small number of available units. (We are staying there in July, and were told there are only 14 units opening in July). There is also going to be a group of people who want to try it out as soon as it opens. AKV will probably stay completely booked well in advance until Kidani is built & open. You'll want to plan a good ways ahead.

The OP has tried for the entire AK resort - it is not just the villas that are not available so it does seem a little strange that there is nothing available for that one night in Sept.

AKV is taking up some of the space that was used by lodge rooms, but I'm also guessing it's the free dining - won't that be right at the end of the promotion? Free Dining has been very, very successful in its ability to fill up Disney resorts during the hurricane season.

Maybe some AKL rooms are being taken out of circulation due to construction noise. I wouldn't want to be on the 4th floor of AKL with construction going on right above me! Once they start working on the Kudu trail, there will be noise coming from both the 5th floor and the far side of the Sunset Savanna. Not very magical!

Free dining could be a factor, I suppose. The package would have to start on 9/22 to qualify for free dining (9/22 is the last day of free dining)

Otherwise, it just means I will have to come back to Disney sometime and stay at AKL (or AKV) !!

We could still visit the resort to see what it looks like! Maybe we can try a DVC tour there during our stay?!! that might be cool too.

I appreciate everyone's quick responses!! thank you!

Definitely go to AKL and look around to see if you like the resort. If you want to do a DVC tour, you'll have to go to SSR. They have the model rooms there for AKV. Have a nice trip!:)

There is a VERY long thread over on the Resorts board where Disney is trying to get at least one person to move. That person seems to have been told that the fourth was closed due to construction on the 5th and 6th for DVC.

Wow, what a thread, I do wonder how many people will be asked to move, that has got to be such a disappoint since their vacation is so close!

You know me though! (the DVC-wanna be!) - I would've jumped on the 1BR at SSR she was offered! just based on the "kids in the same room or not in the same room" would do it for me! - oh yeah, jacuzzi tub too! I kind of wished she would have tried SSR, bet she would have come back with a report of a great trip, (don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that she will love the Poly too) :goodvibes

Don't forget Disney Does not like to do one night reservations. When I am in this situation I make a reservation for 2 to 3 nights and tell them at check in that I will be leaving early. I know some people will disagree with the tactic but as a Florida resident I like spur of the moment trips for the night and it has become increasingliy difficult to do a one night ressie in advance.

WHAT?? I have never had any problem making a one night reservation in advance or at the last minute...If there were rooms Disney seems willing to rent them to me. (And if your method becomes "widespread" figure Disney will adopt the model that is very prevelant in the hotel industry the $50 charge for early check out...I am staying at the Hilton in HHI next month and that's thier standard.)

Not only that, they knew I was actually adding an 8th night. First seven were already booked as a package. I had checked online and all the other deluxe resorts are available for that one night. Just not AKL. As we discussed, it's apparently due to the construction.

Now I'm trying to decide if we'll just try to add one more night of free dining at POFQ. Or, use my MIL's FL Res Disc. for maybe Poly. I will ask my MIL if she has a preference.

(CarolA, you have helped me and others with great advice on various threads, and I just want to say thank you. :goodvibes )

I know that for guests booking a land/sea package with DCL, the AKL has been removed as a choice due to the stepped up construction, so it doesn't surprise me to not see it available during that timeframe in Sept. I just posted on the resorts thread about the guests being asked to move (and now have on my flame-retardant suit ) as it bothers me to see people telling the OP to keep on demanding more, more, more than the free upgrade they already got and seemed satisfied with until they were told they "deserved" more). I have an AKLV ressie with points for labor day weekend and for a few nights in mid-Sept. If I find out that there's lots of noise and I can't return to the room for a mid-day rest ( I am disabled and HAVE to rest/nap) then I will be moving to another resort or cancelling. I guess we have to wait and see how bad it really is from folks who are staying there. I hope Disney is just being pro-active and considerate. I'd think that availability could change based on how far along the construction goes and as areas are completed. Keep checking! We just had a wtl clear for WLV in July- when we called all that was available was SSR, then OKW wlt cleared, and now finally our desired resort. --Kathy

Kathy, I was just reading your post! (and posted right after you-check it out!) ;)

I think I will add my one night at pofq for now, and I will keep checking! They may have this thing figured out by 9/29 at AKL. And if we get to stay there one night, fine, and if not - that's ok too. maybe I'll even make a reservation for Boma (if I can get one) and it will either be OOP or on the free dining plan depending on where we end up staying that last night of our package.

Mary- I hope you get what you want ! I've been really lucky by checking back frequently ( or as a DVC member with the waitlist process) and I think right now "anything goes" with the construction and thus availability for ressies at AKLV ( and AKL). ---Kathy
